Are these delays unusual?

As some of you may have seen in another thread, it took my MCS about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to make a boat after arriving at the dock (it missed 3 ships in the meantime), and now, it has arrived at the VDC and has been there about 10 days. What gives? The only VDC installed options I have are stripes and an Ipod adapter. It just makes me nervous. Are the repairing damage or what??

My car arrived at the NY VDC on 08-10-07, but as of 8-27, there was no word when it would arrive. I spoke to the sales mgr for my dealership, and she called the VDC, and put a priority on my car. I got it 3 days later.

Rumor is that every week the dock hands pick out a Mini for the "Beer Runs":impatient

Missing three ships is rather rare and does not happen all that often. As for 10 days at the VDC, that can be effected by how busy they are. If there is damage to your Mini
they are required to inform you. (seems to be if it is 3% or more than the value of the car) If the car has extensive damage then you have the option of re-ordering.
I would contact your MA and push him to find out what the status of your Mini is.

I talked to my MA tonight at the dealership and they have a report that they print each day. If there is damage to the car (either in loading it on the ship or unloading it), there is a "D" in the information about the car. They should be able to tell you if this is the case.

Thanks for the info. I'll be discussing it with him today or Monday. I've not been the "squeaky wheel" up until now, but I think it's time to start.

My MA said 10 days was typical. Mine was delayed a couple weeks longer due to a scratch, less than 1 inch long that was repaired (which is undetectable!)

Finally released to the shipper today, so it should be here in time to pick it up next weekend. It arrived at the VDC on the 7th, and was released to the shipper on the 22nd or 23rd.

Well that's great news! Did your MA ever give you any type of explanation on what caused the holdup???

I'd definitely look into that one... Make sure they disclose the EXACT damage to you. Unless you had a body kit installed at the VDC, that kind of delay at the VDC most certainly means that something strange took place.

Our car was damaged during shipment and was held up at the VDC for nearly two weeks. Once the damage was finally disclosed, it turned out that only the gas cap needed to be replaced. No biggie, but if the damage had been any worse, we surely would have turned the car away and ordered a new one.

Good luck!

An update to close out the post...
The car arrived at the dealer on 24 October. I picked it up the following Saturday. The MA had no explanation for the delays, but he looked at the tracking sheet and said there was no damage notation. I've looked over the car pretty closely, and have found no issues at all. So, maybe there was a delay on one of the VDC installed options (either the Ipod interface or the cobra stripes). Anyway, just happy it's here and I'm really enjoying it!
