This is so cool- I've never tracked a new car like this before....
And thanks for the welcome, everyone- very nice!
My wife and I still visit Seattle 4-6 times a year. While I do miss it, I love Portland! (It's kinda where Seattle was, traffic-wise and population-wise, when I left Seattle back in '92)

Anyway, thanks everyone (especially Tharkun) for contributing to this thread and the Mini community in general.

I really love Portland too and have a couple of really good friends down there. Although my husband just said he hates I-5 in Portland worse than in Seattle. I'm looking forward to going there to pick up Pigwidgin (ordered it from Rasmussen).

I just looked at the Milan Express' water and air temp measurements as it's right next to Figaro. Think it just came out of the canal from the opposite direction. It's reporting the water temp as 33 Celsius. MAN! I wanna be THERE. It's cold here in Seattle!!

Entering Panama Area

Figaro is showing on the AIS Panama Overview map, so looks like she "may" dock at MIT soon, keep in mind the AIS map is lagged by usually an hour, and can me longer at times.

Wow, went and got myself an account there and I can see what you're looking at. Very cool. Lots of ships going through the canal. I'm assuming it runs ships through there 7x24?

Yup locks are in operation 24/7, on the Panama web site there is a "schedule" that shows when lock outages are scheduled, also how the passage "slots" system works. Good reading if you get really bored watching the progress of your ship.

So according to the AISLive site, it looks as though Figaro is docked. Tharkun, how was it that you figure it's going to go through the locks in the morning and not sometime today? Interesting that the sailwx site stops at 12-Oct-0000.

Since I have been watching WW ships they they do not make the lock passage on the same day as arriving at MIT. But there is always a first time, so suggest keeping an
eye on here during the day/evening.
She should do as the WW ships in the past and trek back out past the breakwaters to the Cristobal anchorage area and anchor till early morning.

That's where I'm seeing her now. In the Cristobal anchorage area, docked off to the side. Wish I could save the image as a jpg or gif file. It's not giving me that option so I could post the image here. Or maybe I just don't know the trick to do it.

Nope no trick, the AIS software won't allow you to save as a pic. You need to take a screen shot and then post it.
Also for those who are new to the AIS maps, the color of the ships icon have meaning.

Red = No report in the last 30 minutes.
Yellow = 5 MPH or less
Green = 5 MPH or more

Alright...gonna try this again....

Editted after posting it: That's the only way I could figure out how to upload the screenshot. Not sure if there is a better way but I gotta go to work so I can pay for the car! Hopefully y'all can see it.

And here is the Google maps link to the satellite image that shows the Cristobal Anchorage area. And a picture of where we'll be going.

Can't track all ships, but try to help on the west coast ones when I can. Repeat posts ??......that could be old age I guess.

I took it to mean that you're posting the same answers all the time, because people are always asking the same questions?

UPDATE

Well either AIS is very lagged or Figaro is staying at MIT way longer than normal. If things occur as usual Figaro should eventually trek out back past the breakwaters and anchor till morning.
I'm usually awake early and if so will post any news of her heading for the Gatun lock.

UPDATE

Figaro passed thru the Gatun lock about 5:15 am (PST) and is currently stopped/anchored in Lake Gatun.
She could stay here for several hours, or head south at any time.

So is it the Miraflores lock that it goes through next? Are there only two locks that it goes through?

First she will pass under the Centennial Bridge and you can see her that cam. Once out of that cam view it takes approx 10 - 15 minutes
before she arrives at the second lock (Pedro Miguel). From that lock to the last lock (Miraflores) it can take as long as an hour. The cam
is on the Miraflores lock and depending on time of day the view angle changes.

UNDERWAY

AIS is showing Figaro as underway again, she should not make any more stops and be at the last locks in the next 2 - 4 hours.

Yep, I was referring to the many questions people ask over and over again; no criticism of Tharkun's age whatsoever...

No worries as my comment was an attempt at humor.

But ya a lot of the posts are just answering the same questions, if I continue to do this I may come up with a more efficient way of doing so.
