Fish has arrived

Wow, what a day,

I picked up Fish at around 6:00pm yesterday from Lauderdale MINI. The whole experience was excellent.

I will post much more extensively upon my return to Toledo, OH this weekend. I'm going to be driving north over the next couple of days, gently breaking Fish in. By time I get home, 3 days & 1400 mi or so later, It will be ready to rock!

Don't like calling Fish "it" tho. Gonna detour a bit on my trip and introduce Fish to the Dragon and then we'll see whether it is more a "him" or "her", lol.

Well....I finally got a delivery date of 10/7 which is a sunday so I am assuming I can pick her up on Monday the 8th. What a long wait it has been, almost 10 weeks. I am calling my MA today and try to make the arrangements.

ok this is a little strange.....I called today to confirm my pick up arrangement for Saturday... as when my MA called me on Monday to tell me Pepe had arrived I could only speak for a few mins.... I got transferred around a couple of times and then spoke to another MA who advised that my MA 'no longer worked there' very odd as I spoke to her on Monday and she didnt mention a thing...

Of course not that she had to let me know and my experience has been nothing but great but its like when your hairdresser/doctor/insert appropriate non personal relationship moves on in their lives and it impacts yours (kinda) I'm disappointed as I never got a chance to thank her properly for all her help!!!

Now waiting for another MA to call me back to confirm Saturday - I am back in chitown so will be on speed redial all day if neccessary!!!

Congrats to all picking up their mini's soon!

Unforunately I've just returned from a very sour experience at the dealership. Some originally worked out terms changed significantly and I was given some serious "Look I really couldn't care less about you" attitude from the MA (because he's taken over for the MA who quit). We all know there's few mini dealerships in the US. In Michigan there's only one. At this point I think I'm going to cut my losses at a $500 deposit (unless I can argue that back) and move on to another car.

Bummer, I really do love mini's, and waited a long time for this car. But I don't want to work with that kind of dealership over the next how many years. Nonetheless, I hope everyone else has a great experience and great time with their new car!

Finally Pepe and I met in person and are now on the road!!!! - Dealership was one here in Chicago... they are great and the MA that helped me today go over everything (including the delivery checklist I printed off one of the threads from here) putting on the Ipass onto my windcreen, and putting on my IM finisher licence plate surround was great!!

Now getting used to having a 6th gear - all my other manuals only had 5...

Some bright light on this very sad day... All Blacks out of the Rugby World Cup losing in the quarter finals to FRANCE ugh .... but pepe will cheer me up!!

wow, congratulations!
I noticed in your gallery that your front license plate has been attached to the front bumper using drilled holes. Is this something that the dealer will do unless you specifically ask them not to?
I do not want holes drilled in my mini to attach the front license plate so do I need to call my MA before its too late and ask him to please be sure not to drill holes, or is this something they do at the VDC. I am in California where legally front license plates are required and my mini is at the VDC

my MA advised me that IL requires a front plate and if I didnt want I would have to sign a waiver that they had advised me (of ILs requirements). I weighed it up and since I live in the city city (vs the burbs) decided that I didnt want to get hit with the $50 fine over and over... so they drilled and installed onsite at the dealer.

Hope this helps -and enjoy your mini when he/she arrives!

Thanks,
I just sent an email to my dealer saying that I would appreciate it if the holes were not drilled at time of delivery (which should be sometime this week!)

Zach, where did you order from again?

I just picked up Paddington Bear on Saturday (from So. Cal), and had a nice ride back up to Norcal. Front holes weren't drilled until the MA asked us on pickup day if we wanted them drilled or not. Despite the look, I had them drilled b/c of the CA law. Already had too many run-ins w/ the CHP in my previous car for front plate issues. Didn't want to deal w/ the hassles. Looks fine to me.

I ordered from Long Beach Mini, have not yet picked up, should be anytime this week they tell me.
I recieved a reply from my email yesterday saying: "Hello! We don't actually mount the front plate unless the customer wishes to have it put on, but we do ask before hand only because California State Law requires you to have it."
I too would like to stay out of trouble with jonny law but i really dont want to have holes drilled in the front so perhaps one of those contraptions that bolts to the tow hook hole will be in order for me sooner or later

I dont know where my mini is now. I called my dealer last Friday ( the date that the online lounge said it would be delivered) and my MA said that it was "at the port, there might be / usually would be delays and it should be here sometime this week. " Then I called 866 ASK MINI and it said the same exact thing....

Today I call 866 ASK MINI once again since that is probably where my MA would get his info from anyways, Once again it says your car is "at the port awaiting a transport vessel"
??? transport vessel? either ASK MINI is waaaaay behind or they mean it is waiting for transport vessel to VDC or Dealer?

Can someone please tell me what is going on here?

btw Owners loung says vehicle is @ VDC

Once your Mini arrived at the VDC both the OL and ASK MINI are not the best source for info, they can be very slow and not the most accurate. My OL is still showing Skeeter at the VDC and an estimated delivery date of 8/15.
You best source for info is your MA, the data base they access is not the same one for OL so your MA should be more current.
As for the "vessel" that is refering to the transport truck from the VDC to your dealer.

Mine was unloaded 9/25 and is still at the same port. It was delayed for an unknown reason. My MA hasn't been able to find out why either.
