Average time through the VPC

Hey folks,

Now that my car is at the Charleston port, about how long does it take to get from the port, to and through the VPC (assuming no damage, of course) and released to carrier for transport.

Thanks...

Depends on if you have any dealer install items to be completed at the VDC and if the VDC is busy, but usually a few days to pass thru the VDC and then scheduled for a transport truck. See in your signature you must have contacts at the factory to get the 2008 model year.

No special contacts, just good timing. I was lucky enough to find a dealer that had an open production spot for week 36 which, I guess, is the week they generally start producing the new model year (at least if it's a carryover like the convertibles). Ordered the car on 8/15 from Lauderdale MINI, production complete on Sept 6th and it made it onto the Frisia by the 14th.

The only dealer install items are the Sport Stripes & I can't imagine that taking all that much time. Do they apply the stipes & clearcoat (or any other sealing feature)?

The reason I'm soooo antsy is that I have to return my Subaru WRX off lease on OCT 2nd. To make matters worse, I'm in Toledo OH and I am taking delivery in Florida (if you're wondering why, it's because my 'rents live 1/2 hour from there and their dealer gave me a price about $750 less than my local (lol, 90 miles away north of Detroit). I'm probably gonna drive the Rex down (yes, i've got a 2000 milage buffer) this Sat-Mon, relax with my parents for a couple of days by the pool, and hopefully!!!, pick up Fish and start driving it north by the 5th. Bonus is that I'll get ALL the break-in mileage over with in 2-3 days without any serious temptation to be harsh on the engine ;-)

Seems you are the only one I have seen with a 2008 so congrats, have not heard anything about the factory producing the 2008 models as of yet.

You may want to check your Vin # on Carfax and see what it shows for a model year, just to verify that your dealer is is correct about what he is selling you.

Carfax

Gotta be honest, you threw me, unintentionally i'm sure, into quite the 5 minute panic, lol!
CarFax doesn't yet recognize the VIN but both my contract and MINIUSA show the car as a 2008 MCc MY.

Gotta .... Calm.... Down...

Sorry not trying to upset you, just that I know of at least one otherNAM memeber in build week 36 with an MC and it is not a 2008. So just courious why you are the only one to receive the new model.

Does MCc=mini cooper convertible? I was told that the 10th character in on the vin tells the model year -- my MCSa is a 7 in week 39.

If that's the rule, it works for me, VIN has an 8 as 10th digit.

Does anyone know if VIN's are consecutive with builds to any degree, that is, the next car in production line has a VIN with the last digit 1 number/character higher?
Or is it more like Social Security in that each digit/character is a code. If so, does anyone have a Magic Decoder ring???

Maybe we could get a game of VIN poker going. My VIN has a grouping of 5 characters, then 5 digits, then 2 characters, then 5 digits.
If character 10 is the model year, then the digits in position 6-9 could be the 4 cards in an Omaha hand, lol.

Also, MCc indeed refers to cabrio/convertible/ragtop.

I think I read this on an FAQ somewhere:
Digits 1-3 are the manufacturer code
Digits 4-7 are the location of manufacture
Digits 8-9 are unknown
Digit 10 is the model year
Digits 11-12 are unknown
Digits 13-17 are the sequence number

It may be that the cabrios are into 2008, but the coupes are not yet.

The netherworld has released it's grip!!

Fish was cleared for transport today and I will be picking it up on Monday evening!!

The dealer's gonna throw in some MINI Swag. Aside from Ball caps and touch-up paint, any suggestions?

Yes, My MA called me this afternoon to say that it was on a transport and would arrive at the dealership Monday morning.
They'll apply the stripes, program my memory selections and I'll pick it up around 6!!!

UPDATE pepe is at the VDC... where am I getting this info... from the OL if you can believe it... so based on what everyone else has said that could mean she is already on a truck heading to chi-town if the OL is always a couple of days behind ..... so hopefully mid-week pepe will finally be here!!!!!!

Miniusa shows my car is at DC. I think it arrived on 9/26. Now shows delivery as 10/1. Is that to the dealer or when it will leave the DC?

The date that OL shows is the estimated delivery date to your dealer.

and ditto thanks for all the help these last few torturous weeks... when I first ordered and saw what I thought were desperate postings by impatient mini owners I thought typical americans always impatient..... oh how the mighty fell these last few weeks as I constantly checked online and had to restrict myself to only contact my MA twice a week... cant wait to get her home and out on the road.. thanks again!
