Gotta love irony.

I`ve been a big ford guy all my life. About 6 months ago, I bought a 05 MCS. Fast forward to a month ago. Found a good deal on a 01 Mustang GT convertible, 67k, triple white, just needed a good bath. Now dont get me wrong, I love driving with the top down, but it just goes back to the saying, never meet your childhood hero. The car just doesnt do it for me. Its not very fast, (which I knew going into it ((convertibles add alot of weight)), it just doesnt have the pep the mini has, doesnt feel like it handles as good, I find the hood scoop to be annoying (probably half because its non functional ((only the Mach 1's are functional), doesnt brake as good as the Mini, I`ve tried hard to like the car, but just cant get over something about it. I usually obsess over my cars, but probably for all the reasons I listed above, to me, its just a car. Even her BMW, I ENJOY driving. Its the smallest engine and probably the slowest car they made, the 316i hatchback, but even that feels like it out handles the mustang. Oh well, I guess the good part is I only paid 7500 for it, so should be able to get my money back out of it.

Glad you realized that the MINI was the car for you in the long run.

If I'm correct, its for the European market only. I did find out later, they also made a 325i, or 328i in the hatchback. That would have been sweet, but I have only seen one since I have been over in the UK.

I've never been a big fan of Mustangs either. The classic ones are great, but I don't like anything from '70 up personally. But you can always make things better. Just splurge and get the KB supercharger kit with the FMIC and you'll be good to go. If that's not enough, change the gearing in the rear end out for some racing gears, grab a new tune and you're running 12's. Or skip the KB, run spray with the other stuff and you're running high 11's with a good driver. Handelling, well, wrong car for that. Stick with the MCS. Mustangs can be fast, but the MCS will be more FUN to drive.

In Ethiopia my fellow shipmate had a 1970 Ford Torino Cobra with the 429 SCJ and Drag Pack and the new "shaker hood", and I had my 1961 Austin 850 Mk1 (Classic Mini) with the single side draft SU and 10" tires.

I routinely beat him down the mountain to the desert, but about 1/4 of the way across the desert he would blow past me and would have a cold beer waiting for me in Mit'siwa.

Such fun.......Les
