OUT OF VW'S AND INTO MINI'S

I THINK THAT AFTER 10+ YEARS OF OWNING, MODIFYING, AND RACING VW'S, I AM READY TO TURN OVER THE KEYS OF MY CARS TO SOME BUDDIES. MY WIFE AND I DECIDED TO RECENTLY BUY A NEW MCS TO BE HER PRIMARY CAR, AND I FIND MYSELF FIGHTING FOR THE KEYS EVERY MORNING FOR GOING TO WORK. DON'T GET ME WRONG I HAD A LOT OF FUN IN MY GTI'S AND GLI BUT MINI SEEMS TO BE HEADED IN A DIRECTION (FUN) THAT VOLKSWAGEN HAS SEEMINGLY FORGOT.

Congrats on the new MINI - enjoy. Do try to post without the caps on though as it makes your post tough to read.

I see your point, although the new GTI seems to be a step back in the right direction for VW. I think they're making an effort to get back to the fun/performance feel that they had before. I also love the R32... Admittedly heavy, but incredible nonetheless.

I do have to agree about not using all capital letters. Some consider using all caps to be "yelling" in text form...

Welcome to NAM. I loved VWs back in the early 70s. But they don't even compare with the MINIs.

Yah.....and on vwvortex, Minis are generally considered inferior. lol

I'm also a VW to Mini guy, but I'm not about to bash VW's. Styling is arbitrary, but my 06 GLI is a performer. My 97 Jetta? Not so much but still fun to drive. Still getting a MCS for commuting, but for modding, the GTI/GLI is better IMO because of it's aftermarket support and ridiculous factory turbo engines just begging to be modded. My wifes next car is an S4, so still sticking to VAG!

I know I shouldn't get all caught up in internet banter, but......

By most accounts, you're the first to say the interior of a MK5 VW is cheap. Most, including columnists, consider them to be the best out of their price range. Soft touch materials, top rate leather, fit and finish, chrome, etc. Its comparable to mid-lux cars. Generic the R56 interior is not, but some don't appreciate the basketball speedo and built in stereo head. IMO, the MK5 VW's have very sweet interiors by "generic" standards, and the Mini has a very sweet interior by non generic standards.
