Caravan to MitM? Post Here...

Please post your driving / caravan plans to MitM in August. Note that if you ARE coming thru the Denver Metro area, you MAY wish to take the long route off I-70 and enjoy the WESTERN DRAGON, a drive just posted in the MitM site.

If you are coming from the West, don't worry. We will add this ride to your map book and you can take it too...

Planning on attending from Oklahoma. Will be coming from either Oklahoma panhandle through Raton to Colorado Springs. Or North to Salina, KS then over I-70. If we get a group together will decide route later.

Whichever way you come

plan to run the WESTERN Dragon. You get to it off I-70 at the Evergreen exit, so no matter your route, you will find it.

345 turns, 31 miles....

Hey BC,
Give me a time and date when it get's closer and we will try to meet up for the I-70 haul. If more are coming that way we'd run up to Salina and over if everyone wanted to.

Hey Batman! I can answer that question...

Here is our agenda for the Great Denver to KC to StL to Nashville to Dragon caravan, beginning Tuesday, May 2:
  • Radinator arrives eastbound I-70 in Denver (from California)
  • Join up with me and JimDaniels, heading eastbound to Hays, KS
  • Overnight Tuesday, May 2 in Hays (Comfort Inn)
  • Leave AM Wednesday, May 2 to KC. Arrive Baron MINI @ 12:30 local time (we lost an hour) and meet with Gabe Rojas MA and the Chicago based MINIUSA rep. Also, Todd from White Roof Radio. Lunch.
  • Leave 2 pm Wednesday to StL, eastbound.
  • Overnight in StL near StL MINI group at the Red Roof Inn on Lackland Road (Westport area)
  • Leave StL RRI at about 5:15 am Thursday, May 4th to Illinois. Rendezvous with rest of StL MINIs at Hardees, Interstate 64 @ US 50, at 5:45. Caravan leaves promptly at 6 am, with or without you. This is the exit after Fairview Heights, exit #14.
  • ETA Dragon 4 pm Eastern Time. 3 stops. Group will be large enough to splinter up and move at different rates.
Care to join us in Salina? Our ETA there, leaving Hays at 7:00 (remember, we lost an hour) is 8:30, after 96 miles. No sweat. Probably sooner. We will not need gas....175 miles or 3 hours later we are in KC. After a gas and pee stop that is....probably closer to NOON. 4.5 hrs total driving time, plus a stop, from when we leave Salina. Give or take a few....

Are you in?

Jonathan

I'll most likely be coming from St. Louis as well. Having a nice caravan will hopefully make the drive across Kansas a little nicer.

Are you guys planning on driving stright through, or are you going to stop somewhere?

Doug Travis (ZINFUL)

will coordinate the caravan(s) from StL as there may be more than one. We will need a KC contact for him, then anyone in Topeka / Salina etc. along the way. Watch this thread for the action on that.

See you soon. Pls FRAPPR yourself and be sure to RSVP your lodging with Copper ASAP.

My wife and I are going on the 9th. We are in the Kansas City area. We would love to caravan with the St. Louis MINI's coming thru. I decided against the 4am 10th route. I want to be fresh enough to drive on the Midnight ride on the 10th.

Per jsouz suggestion running the Western Dragon on the way in sounds like fun.

I'll be coming from Salt Lake and will take UT Hwy 6 to I-70 right at Green River. Few miles before the turnoff to Moab. Wouldn't mind a stop there and do a hike through Arches National Park, but alas those darn time constraints. We have Sandie coming from Nor Cal that will meet our Utah group. But I'm having a VERY difficult time getting our Utah club attendance count in order. Right now I have a few "maybes", but besides that, it's just me that's for sure. I also might be driving all the way through to Pueblo for the Thursday race, then back to Copper, but still not sure. Agro, if our plans match up, let's meet in Green River or Grand Junction. Love this drive, one of the best interstates in the country IMO.

What day/time are the folks from Colorado Springs leaving? I think I saw 4 or 5 and didn't want to email all of them and hope they troll the boards.

Purplehaze and I will be leaving Dallas butt-o'clock on Wednesday (the 9th) and driving up. I've done both the TX panhandle and up 35/70 and I think we are going the panhandle way. That way we can hit I25 and run up the Front Range. We are planning on staying off E-470/289 Wed night and then driving up to Copper early Thursday morning.

I haven't made any hotel plans yet, so if anyone is staying on the Front Range Wed night and then doing an early morning drive up let me know and I'll book the same hotel.

Woohoo! 33 days!

Driving to Copper in my Cooper

My wife and I are driving to Copper from Steamboat Springs which is about 100 miles north. This is our first MINI event and we are really looking forward to it. There are about ten MINIs in this small mountain town. I will try to bring so more MINIs.

See you soon.

For those of you coming from Salt Lake City SLC

you have choices. The natural choice is down I-15 / I-70, then hang a left. However......

Those in the know will take the northern route thru western Wyoming. Now, this might not sound like much now, but if you have done it you know. I80, WY789, CO13. and so on.

The other alternative is US40 which takes you right into Steamboat, and you can do some of our rides...before you ever get here.

Just some suggestions for you to think of and plan for....

Jonathan
