05 mcs wont start, batteries fine, has new alt and starter
I have an 05' MCS with about 116000 miles on it. It hasnt been starting, i hear the clutch safety switch click, the battery is fine (load tested it), and I can start the car by pushing it and popping the clutch, but when running it is getting a low charge of 12.1 from the alt., I had the starter and alternator replaced about a month and a half ago because of the same issue. The car will run fine to drive distances and even all day if i push start it, but i havent been able to jump it from another car. I am completely boggled, I'm guessing it has to do with the immobilizer system. Somebody please help me out!
does not turn over at all, no click from starter, or at least not that i can tell, cables look good everywhere, i tested all the cables including the ones in the box in the trunk next to the battery, all make good circuits
If it is the original battery, feel very good that it lasted as long as it has. OEM batteries are notorious for not lasting very long. It sounds like the battery is dead. They can "test" ok, but can still be dead.
Do you have a quality battery charger you can put on it?
i checked the ground strap today, looked fine to me, still didnt start even with the other key, I have no idea whats going on, i think im going to take it to the shop tomorrow am.
I would check the clutch switch.
If car is stick shift, there will be no electrical connection unless clutch pedal is depressed. If switch is shot you can't start car.
car is a stick shift, I have checked the switch when the car acted like this before, and it was fine, the last time the car did this it was the alternator, but i dont see how my alternator could cause this again/alternator could fry so quickly. and if that switch was causing this problem would it have any effect on the charging of the batt when I push start the car?
Mini's were fitted with several different size altenators.
If a larger alt. was installed without the corrisponding voltage regulator the electrical system could be fried.
In some ways that sounds like what has happened.
