Sidepipes? Need undercar image.

Well I'm just so sick and tired of my Mini looking like every other Mini on the street. I think it's time for sidepipes.

Has anyone done this? Can anyone think of any reason why this wouldn't work? I'm not too familiar with the underside of this car. How far back does the downpipe go? My goal is to have it spit out just after the front wheels but I'll do ahead of the back wheels if mandatory. Anyone with great knowledge of the bottom of the car have any suggestions? Anyone have pix of the underbody?

Thank you everyone!

The second cat starts practically right at the back of the front wheels. I guess you could cut the cat off and re-route the exhaust to the side. Or both sides? You'd have to find some area on the sides to drill mounting holes into as well.

As I do not have my R56 yet, I haven't had a chance to look for myself, but...

In that bottom 2nd pic, why is there that slight bend in the exhaust piping before the muffler? I've always wondered this anytime I've seen pictures of an R56 exhaust...it looks unecessary, but maybe I'm not seeing it at the right angle.

If you are going to do it i think it would look better if it came out maybe 3/4 the way back... i guess that would be around the front side of the back tire.

that said, what are you going to do about the back of the car? i think the empty molded up section of the rear bumper would look odd with nothing there.

Buy some JCW aero side skirts and run the exhaust out the "vent" near the end of them

I thought your car was leased (hence the black vinyl instead of paint)???

How are earth are you gonna put it back to stock when you turn it in if you're rockin' side pipes?

I'll be able to put it close enough back to stock for the dealer to sign off on it. Painting it is a whole 'nother story.

I believe by law you have to have the exhaust exit behind all passengers. With that said, I would mix the idea of having it exit right behind the front wheel. Additionally, you don't want to be breathing in exhaust fumes every time you roll down your window.

Good point with the fumes. I'll look into doing it in front of the rear tires.

As far as doing it out of the JCW body side part that's a cool idea but for starters I don't think it would work due to heat and size. And secondly I want the look of my dad's Vega. I took it out the other day. After looking at the sidepipes I thought it would be sick on the Mini.

I'd love to get flames shooting out on occasion. My C5Z06 did that a ton. Backfires like gunshots and 5 foot flames you could see in the middle of the day. I was actually wanting to do the dump out on the Mini just after the front wheel with hope that I could get some flames.

are you planning on lowering the MINI? if so i would be concerned about damaging the exhaust since it would sit a good deal lower than the cars underside.

If/when you do this, I'd highly recommend using oval piping. It will get you better ground clearance, which you will need. I'd run a y-pipe just past the engine after the downpipe, then run the oval piping to the sides, then posibly a nascar style tip, just so you don't scrap in parking lots, speed bumps, manhole covers, etc.
