Could someone tell me what this piece is?
I was wondering if someone could tell me what this piece is? I was changing the oil last night and was looking around the engine bay for anything a miss. Came upon this piece with a tear in it by where the intake shroud fits. Wondering if it could cause anything? Vacuum leak? Anything like that. I ask cause I have the dreaded P115c CEL and have already replaced the MAF and also sprayed Carb & Choke cleaner around the valve cover... MAF area... PCV valve area on the valve cover...inlet area with the inlet connects to the turbo.. etc. The revs didnt change one bit. Not really interested in throwing a grand at the problem for it to still be there like so many have in the past. My only other guess is that maybe its carbon buildup related? Last time I seafoamed the car before revving the car this (PIC 3) was on the ground before. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

+1 is the wire protection for the main engine bay wire harness. Just make sure not of the wire inside of it are damaged or scraped. Check the connection all to the valve cover and while you are at it check the connection from the valve cover to the intake boot. Also the intake boot fro crack , splits down near the turbo.

Went out and checked the inlet and no noticeable cracks or anything. I didnt take the inlet off or anything so unless its on the under side then I at least didnt see anything. Would it have to be a decent size split or would a really small split cause a CEL. And with the hairline cracks in the valve cover. Would those be noticeable when spraying the carb and choke cleaner? And would such a small crack cause a CEL? I dont notice any kind of hissing or anything like that. Vacuum is around 18.6 at idle... boost doesnt seem to be off. MPG is good.

Check the bottom side of the connection to the turbo from the intake boot. You will see cracking. For the valve cover , loud hissing noise ( off a hairline crack that's larger with heat) , or in the early days there will be oil residue on the valve cover that continues to show up, mostly on the center position. Check all those connections I posted above, like back side hose ( check for damage leaks ) from the valve cover to the intake manifold.
Thanks and let us know if you find anything.

It's not covered under warranty unfortunately. It's going to cost $500. The valve cover alone is anywhere between $300-350. I also worked a deal with them to install spark plugs while they are there.

Undid the inlet from the turbo and the MAF to try and see if I can see any splits...rips...tears...etc and have found nothing. The inlet would've made the much sense cause back when I installed the intake I was having trouble with the inlet staying on the turbo. But retightened it and since havent had a issue with it coming off. Was pretty snug on the turbo. I have 0 hissing coming from the car when I shut her off and no oil spots (besides the 1 spot that I accidentally spilled some one time) on the valve cover. The only other thing is the back side hose and unless I have the Alta CAI installed incorrectly then I dont know what else it could be. I have included some pics of how I have the intake installed and some pics of the inlet where it connects to the turbo. Looking at pics of the Alta intake installed I dont believe I have it installed wrong. The bottom piece that connects to the intercooler pipe is suppose to not connect onto anything right? I'm really just about to give up on trying to track this down.

Ok so I am having some moisture or a oil leak around the PCV valve on the valve cover by the turbo inlet. I have cleaned the area off but after driving it again the oil is right back to where it was. Would I need just the gasket to fix it or the entire valve cover? I have attached pics so you can see what area I am talking about. And thanks again for all the help regarding this.

It looks like there is a tiny split or crack in the valve cover , looks like its right below that hose, on the lower section flat inner piece ( right were the oil seepage looks to be) , right between the top inlet tube and the coil. On that upper inner section. I don't know if it extends under the cover. But I would pull the valve cover off and see if its under it. That's where the oil seepage starts.
