R53 strange drilled hole

Hi
Could anyone explain why you would drill a hole in this pipe ( and then tejp it )

What was the purpose of doing this?

Since it's in the resonator, my guess is that he/she wanted more sound, but was too lazy to just remove it.

Looks like they would have had to remove it to drill the hole, it looks like it is on the bottom of the intake duct (PN: 13721491748 $34.20). Maybe it was to get more air into the air box housing.

things that make you go..."Hmmmmm?"

Motor on!

How would you remove the resonator? It looks like that is all one piece. Does anyone make an aftermarket replacement for that part that doesn't have the resonator?

Mine has a hole drilled in it too. Hides the braided lines.
