NEWB question -- antenna power

Hi,

I just received my PioneerMVH-X560BT from Crutchfield. The kit has the blue and white system controlled remote taped off, but the connector wires it comes with has a blue wire waiting, labeled for "Power Antenna"

My search shows that while we don't have a power antenna, we do have a booster that needs power. And this blue-white wire in the guide reads "Connect to system control terminal of the power amp or auto-antenna relay control terminal" so can I just connect these?

Also, anyone know which side is the hot side of fuse 10? Thanks!

OK, I guess time will tell, but I wired everything up, and it is all working. Power was not run to fuse 10, rather to pin 16.

Day zero, and everything works!! YAY...

Just the antenna wire. Do not connect the amp wire to the antenna wire. Enjoy your tunes

On older BMW it was necessary to couple the +12V antenna amp on signal onto the antenna coax cable using a tuned balun . On the mini the antenna amp just turns on all the time.

It looks like you're already installed, but yeah, I discovered the hard way that the power antenna cable should be connected to the receiver wire that would theoretically run to an amp. Otherwise, no a.m. reception.

And on my install yesterday, I learned the right side of the fuse is the protected side, and the left unprotected.

Generally speaking the "Power Antenna" wires are for an Antenna that is motorized, you turn the radio on and the Antenna Raises, you turn off the radio (or go to AUX, or CD, etc.) and it Lowers the Antenna.

Motor on!

While true, this is the thinking that got me burned yesterday. It turns out some head units (like the JVC I installed) need the power antenna line hooked up to get A.M. reception, despite the fact that our MINIs do not have power antennas. So, be advised!

I hooked up the wire, and everything is fine. There are a few things, wiring wise, that differ from the Crutchfield instructions, but the installation is pretty straight forward. Glad to have BT & ipod, and slightly better sound (only swapped the deck).

Correct in the notion that am is picked up by the antenna amplifier and will not be picked up unless it is powered up by the power antenna wire
