whoo it's hot in here...

It was a nice day today (70s) to drive my F55 with the windows down. The outside air vents were a different story...hot air only, as if it was straight engine air. Anyone else have this problem? I will say when I use the AC it works fine.

Same thing happened to me Friday night. It was nice and cool in the mid 60s. The circulating air was off, however hot engine air was coming from vents. It took several tries from off to full blast for air system to swith to outside. I also have the wet socks smell as described is other threads. Made an appointment for that already and will bring up this issue as well.

When your front air intake vents run thru a heated engine bay how can you expect anything less than warm air? There's no way it will be as cool as the outside temp. Perhaps after an extended run at highway speeds the incoming air might cool the duct work but I wouldn't think by too much.

The reason I posed this question is that I've never had this issue with any other car, and I would think they're all vented thru the engine bay. This wasn't the first time this has happened with the mini either. And no improvement with extended runs.

My previous car (an Audi TT), had this same issue, but the warm air only lasted a minute or two. The MINI, the initial warm air lasts a lot longer, but eventually the outside temperature air does come through.

I expect that when I set my temp to 60F with AC turned OFF... that the air from outside (70F).. wont feel like 80F-90F inside.. my 2011 MCS never behave like this.. I just posted about this issue on my F56 2015, not seeing this post. My bad.

I hope this get resolve soon..

I might be missing something here but if your AC is turned off it doesn't matter what you have the temp set for, nothing is going to come thru the duct work except outside air and the smaller, tighter the confines are in the engine compartment the hotter that air will probably be because of the heat build up in the engine compartment from the engine.

The temperature setting only applies if the AC is on. At least that's how it is on my '13 Hardtop.

I have never had a car before (had 8 of them including my 2011 MSC) that was blowing air in upper 80's, lower 90's out of vents when it was set to lowest possible temps (AC OFF).
This to me is some major design problem with the new Gen3.
This never happened on my Gen2 Mini. I would set temp to LOW and AC OFF and air coming from vents would be same as outside car air temp.

That's correct. When climate control set to outside, lowest temp. and AC off, it should be blowing relatively close to outside temperature. It almost seems like the flap that let's hot air in for heat opens instead. At least that's how it felt in my 2015 MCS when it was 60 outside on ftiday night and it was blowing 80-90 degree heat from vents

Agreed. I'm hoping that one of you guys will
Have this issue resolved soon. I won't be taking my car to dealer any time soon (120 miles trip one way).
I'm waiting for 10k miles maintenance, and then I will bring it up to their attention. Hope it won't be middle of winter lol.

This matches my experience when running just the vent too. The ducts seemingly heat soak and take a bit to cool to ambient.

any got this issue fixed?

Has anyone found a fix for this problem? I have a 2014 MCS and the dealer says it is "normal". I have never had this issue with any other car I have owned

Seems like "normal" and "beats the $h1t outa me" are interchangeable descriptions for some dealers.

Yea, both F56 model when i had the vents off a little heat came through with the window down. Like the HVAC flaps dont shut when its off and channels heat only.

I have the same issue and complaint with my countryman. The vent air is a lot warmer than ambient temp. I had the dealer extensively check my countryman out for this problem to see if the blend door (the flap that mixes heated air with AC air) was sticking but they found everything working perfectly and said the problem is that the fresh air is heated by the engine. Sorry Man. This problem may also be why we cannot get AC temps below 53 degrees out of the vents on a MINI yet any other brand of car can easily be in low 40s out of the vents with the AC set to low on a cool day.

This is the first car I've ever had that NO air comes in through the vents even when it's set to let in outside air. I just don't understand it. I have to turn on the fan or NOTHING. Just doesn't make sense.

Remember on the old 90's SAAB's the center vent would always blow cold , its was so hot air would not blow in you face and you would fall asleep at the wheel. But this is not the case here.

And I'm back to this problem.
Today is 70F outside and sunny. I have all windows down and sunroof open. Auto AC set for 60F (minimum available) and the vents are blowing air warmer than the one outside of my car.
This is some total bullcrap with the new F56 models.
Definitely will bring that to their attention ONCE AGAIN when I'm due for service at dealer 120 miles away. Ugh.
