definitely. i had a 3in magnaflow exhaust put on by my local exhaust shop and when i went to drive it after it sounded a lot quiter then i expected. after a couple weeks it got way louder. it sounds awesome now.
Many choices out there. They all throw out CEL's so just pick your "poison". Some expensive (Akrapovic), some cheap (WMW, Evolve), and some bad quality (Riss Racing). Just use the search function and you'll figure out what is best for your needs...
Muffler delete. CEL isn't even a big issue. I've had many lights lit up on the dash that I could care less at this point. I know what I've done to the MINI and I know what to expect and hear if something goes wrong. Your call!

Loud and obnoxious? Because I've heard loud and it doesn't sound "clean". I always harp back to the Akrapovic exhaust on the R56 and even my friend's M3. They aren't loud, but they have the cleanest sounds for an exhaust.
I'd rather have a "clean" sounding exhaust over something that's so loud that the CHP will give you a hard time over it. My buddy's muffler delete is stupid loud and I'd never rock something like that on the streets...
Deep and throaty is good. This is what I want for my mini. Of course it won't sound like a V8 because it isn't. Doesn't mean it can't sound good. What gets me is the price of aftermarket exhaust. This car has a simple, short system. It shouldn't cost all that much, but they do.
Re: "Make it sound beast." Uh, what does that mean, exactly? This is not an F1 car you're talking about, neither is it a Cummins diesel nor a Chevy small-block. It's a small, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. For starters, the turbo unit itself will attenuate some of the exhaust note. Second, fours can sound quite obnoxious. I'd suggest you be happy with what you have or get yourself a ratty old 1970s Camaro and put loud pipes on that.
I just installed the new s type exhaust from borla on my 2013 mini and thought it would sound louder, within time it will right ?
I thought exactly the same thing, it better get louder!
I installed my Borla S-Type exhaust a little while ago and at first I'm like where is that deeper throaty sound, my brother looked at me and I looked at him saying that's it! On my way home I believe it started getting louder even on the freeway, am I experiencing a placebo effect?
Strange thing is I had a pretty deep throaty sound when I had my AEM CAI installed with my stock exhaust, does the intake systems have any influence on exhaust sound?
On another note I looked into my second cat and couldn't believe how clean it was, it was white in color! Is it likely my first cat looks just the same?

Yup. All exhausts get louder after about 1k miles broken in.
I just want to correct this older post real quick.
All exhausts with PACKED mufflers should get louder with some time. You can't sit here and tell me anything can change inside a muffler that consists of nothing but metal baffles.

Reason: typo
My 2013 R56S has had a Borla Exhaust on it for years. Is there any way to make it louder? Is there wadding inside the muffler that can be removed? Can the rear part be switched out?
