Battery cable connections

HI, I have an 04 R53 s model. I recently had to put a new battery in, I see that there is a very odd cable connector. The cable comes out of the trunk floor to the right of the battery box which ends in a slide in connector with a plastic cover that holds the cable to the terminal. Is this normal? Mine keeps getting loose and wont start the car. I wiggle the connector and it Bam it starts. Is their a way to replace that cable or modify it to bolt on instead? That connection is really crappy.
Dave.

there is an explosive safety there so don't get too exploratory

I found, when I replaced the battery on my 2002-S, that the new terminals were a wee bit smaller diameter than the original and ended up using a copper shim to ensure a good connection.
