Advice on tire swap and new wheel size

Hi All,

So, I just picked up a 2019 Cooper S (F55).

I would like to take the exiting stock tires (195/55R16), currently on the stock wheels (6.5Jx16 ET54), and place them on a new set of wheels, then install winter tires on the current OEM wheels.

The new set of wheels I am looking at, to install on the existing stock tires, have a measurement of 7Jx16 ET38. Would the 38 offset be too aggressive all else being stock on the car? Another set I am considering, that a like a bit less, are similar but with a 42 offset. Regardless, up to "flush" is fine, but not looking for any obvious "poke".

Thanks for any advice.

I like this site for comparisons:
https://www.wheel-size.com/calc

Enter your existing wheel and tire sizes, add the clearances around them as measured from the car, then enter the new wheel and tire sizes. Scroll down, and it will show you how the new wheels compare to the old set up. Lather, rinse, repeat for different sizes.

Based on that site, your new wheels of 16x7 +30 will stick out about an full inch compared to the OEM set up. The +42 wheel would probably be a better fit.

Thanks for the reply and link. I was worried that might be the recommendation. I guess the follow up question would be, and let me preface this by saying "I'm flying blind", as I don't pick up the car until this weekend, so just doing "research" currently, whether or not being 1" greater than OEM setup results in poke or not (ie, how sunken, if at all, is the OEM setup).

I know I'm putting the cart before the horse, but too excited to not get a plan in place in advance.

Thanks.

+15mm spacer is pretty typical for flush OEM wheels on a Mini. The +42 offset wheel would put you out about 18mm from OEM, so pretty close.

Got it. I was just reading a thread regarding the 15mm spacers. Dang it, LOL. Thanks again for the help.
