How wide of a wheel can i go??

Have stock 16" on my mini at the moment, I have a 45 profile on them. I am tucking the rears, and almost tucking the front. I found some wheels but the smallest is 16x8. Was wondering if the 8" would be to wide or would I just need to raise the car up alittle?

Try the Google search, adding in the following: "site:northamericanmotoring.com" - the search function here is a bit limited.

For example: try THIS to get started.

Kind regards,

Charlie

It all depends on the wheel's offset and the size of tires you intend to run.
As a reference point, I have 225/50-R16 tires mounted on stock 16x6.5" ET48 wheels and they fit just fine. Close to rubbing on the inside of the fronts, but still make it.

225mm wide tire is 8.86" wide. Assuming your 16x8 wheels have stock offset, they will clear with at least 0.86" / 2 = 0.43" or 11mm of clearance on each side. However, very few aftermarket wheels have that large of an offset.

Bottom line - find out perspective wheels' offset, and re-assess from there.

Why do you want wheels that wide anyway?

That's a lot of extra weight to carry around on each corner for no performance benefit.
Also, assuming that the widest tire you can safely fit is 225mm, the tires will offer virtually no curbing protection to the side of the wheel, and will look pinched and stretched in the middle of a wide wheel.
8" wheels is the widest tire manufacturers list as desirable for 225mm tires:

I'm running a 195/45/16 right now. And the not set on going 8" wide that's just the smallest the wheel I want comes in. And the offset is +15. I talked to a buddy that works at my local MINI dealer and he ran 16x8 and was lower than me. He said he just cut some of the metal behind the plastic, and that I would probably have to stretch tires and get camber plates for the front. And all of that is a lot more than I want to do. I just can't find a wheel I like in the size I want.lo

You may want to consider finding a set of oem 17" rims you like and running 225 45 17’s, just a suggestion...
