WTB: Runflat takeoffs
WTB: Runflat takeoffs
I'm interested in buying a set of 4 runflat tires that are in good shape. Tread must be >8/32" on all four tires. I am only interested in either the Pirelli's (preferred) but will consider the Dunlops as well. I'd also consider Bridgestones if you happen to have them (the RE050's), but I'm not interested in the Goodyear All Seasons (eagle RSA's). Price will of course depend on what tire it is and how good of shape they are in.
Just out of curiousity, why not the Goodyears? I was (sorta still am) a Goodyear hater, but can honestly say that other than the HORRIBLE ride quality, the stock Goodyear runflats were excellent tires. Great handling in all conditions (never tried snow, but great in the rain, hot and cold extremes), quiet, and they wore very well (pulled mine off @ 30k and they still have some decent tread left.) Just curious
I had Goodyear RS-As on a BMW 330 and they were
horrble in the rain. They were not runflats, but the tread pattern was the same as runflats. I dumped them (with 4000 miles on 'em) for Michelin Pilot Sport AS and never looked back The Pilots are far superior.

I have 16" Goodyear runflats on my Cooper. They have gone to the Dragon, to MME, have been tracked and have been thru all sorts of weather without complaint. I can't seem to wear them out and am trying real hard. To date, they have 32k on them and MINI people are astounded. I HATE the ride, though...it's like driving with 4 concrete wheels.
My MCS has the 16" Dunlop 5000s and they offer a much better ride.
I have a used set of 16" Dunlop 5000s I bought on eBay in my garage that have around 12k on them. They are in very good shape and are marked as to which wheels they were on, although one was plugged mid-tire. I was gonna put them on the Cooper when the Goodyears wore out, but since they are wearing like iron, I would like to get rid of the Dunlops...cheap, plus shipping, to wherever in the USA only.

I've got plenty of experience with the eagle RS-A's, they were the OEM tire on my Mazda3. The single best modification I've done to that car is replacing those tires. Also, I have no need for all season tires, the car is in Cary, NC, and whenever it snows, we don't drive the MINI.
Also, the Goodyears are a good 5 lbs heavier per tire than either the Pirelli's or the Dunlops or the Bridgestones.
The Bridgestones were never OEM on the Mini, but I wasn't sure if they might be on the new R56, considering that BMW puts that tire on so many other of its cars, its the RE050A RFT:
