Downsizing from 17" to 16"

Just got my new (to me) 02 MCS and after reading the mushrooming thread, I'm thinking about downsizing to 16 x 6.5 (love the look of the R84's)or 16 x 7. My biggest concern is the look (proportion) of tire to wheel.

For those that are running 16's, what tire size are you running and where can I find actual pics?

i have 205/45R16 so a little bit of a skinner sidewall
also stock suspension except for rear bar but that doesn't make a difference
sure the tiny sidewall opens up my fender gap, but i love the extra acceleration

Hrmmm.

I'm looking at 16's on a Mini closely for the first time and they just seem more proportional looking than the 17 S-lites I have now. When you move from a 17" to a 16" wheel how much is the speedo going to be off? I'm guessing that the increase size of the firewall on the tire makes up for the total diameter.. at least some of it.

you got it, it is all about the tire size

here is a handy calculator:

205/50/16 here, and yes, 16" is the way to go. Both looks and performance

You'll need to also know the tire size in order to calculate the difference in speed. Then use the tire calculator.

Here's a photo of 205/45/16 on 16x7 wheels; on a lowered Mini. If your Mini is stock ride height, this wheel/tire combo will give you a bigger wheel well gap than stock.

Thanks. They weigh about 17 lbs each. They're actually ADR Spider, but it's the same design (and perhaps the same manufacturer) as Rota Circuit 8.
