Turbo Manifold build...

So finally I am getting around to building my new Manifold. In the past month I moved into a new shop and have been extremely busy getting it setup and working on everyone elses car but mine. I had a few hours on Sat to burn, so I started the manifold. I drew up the exhaust flange in ProE and sent it off to a shop that laser cut it out. I designed it to port match to the RMW head as best I could. In the pix you will see it on a stock head. My ports are a little lower in the bottom then need be, so in future renditons I will modify that in the cad file. For you folks unfamilar in turbo manifold builds, I used 304 SS in schedule 10 pipe not tubing. The collector is cnc cut as is the T3 flange its tacked to. I am trying to keep the lengths as close to equal as I can, but its extremely tight in there. I chose to mount the turbo up high for easy access and to keep the weight of the turbo resting on the manifold instead of hanging off it like the others that I have tried that all cracked. It turns out to be very similar in design to Hubie's but it is not a copy.

On this 1st one, I am going to TIG weld it myself even though my welding skills are not the best. Every weld will be back purged with Argon on the inside to have good clean burn through. I am pretty confident on the pipe welds, but not 100% sure on the collector as that is some tough access and mite need to sub that out. Let me know what you guys think so far...

Your using a proper collector I see so of course it will have a ton of smooth flow. How much would it if you were to make them and sell them?

Just click on my photobucket link in my sig as that's where its sourced from anyways.

It is a straight turbo setup. I am using a Garret GT3071R as in my sig. Its on a built engine that I built last year using a RMW head with inconel exhaust valves, CP pistons, ARP studs & rod bolts. Still stock lower end otherwise. I am fabbing in a Spearco air/air front mount intercooler, 75mm throttlebody, 550cc inj, stock fuel system except the walboro pump in the tank, ported intake manifold for now, until I can draw up in ProE a new one. Tuning it currently with a Apexi AFC as I did when I ran twincharge, until I can catch up with Jan. Built to run to 8k, looking for 400whp when done.

Great looking undertaking Trickle X, but you know you're going to melt your valve cover!

Good luck with the TIG welding!

Yeah I have some thermal blankets for the exhaust side of the turbine I will be using...so hopefully it will help! if not then I will make a heat shield for the valve cover...if that doesnt work, I will draw a new one up in cad and send it off!

That depends on if you calculate in all my mistakes...lol

But truthfully depending on how you would want it done, there are a lot of options....you could use a smaller turbo and use the stock throttle body and fuel system with just changing out the injectors for relatively inexpensive. It all comes down to install and who you get things like manifolds and down-pipes made from & what they charge. Ive done everything myself, so it isnt relative to what a customer would see if they need everything fab'd. hit me up in PM and I can give you more specifics....

trickle,

Im glad to see your still working on the turbo setup! I have gotten into the turbo world through my s2000, and know the annoyance of cracked manifolds :( Best of luck! Btw, what are you using to tune the thing?

Yeah that's were I had to go to learn about manifold builds and what does and doesnt work, as well as the VAG world.

For now just the Apexi AFC until I can get up with Jan to do an ECU tune. I am just going to run the deadhead fuel system for now until its running, then convert over to the return style fuel setup were I can control the fuel pressure.
