I have a set of wheels and tires for winter and another for summer, my question is can I just swap them on and off myself? Or is it imperative I have a professional place do it. (balance the tires) I can mount the tires but dont know how to balance them, so is that okay? any advice?

you need to make more friends in service at your work,
start to buy them some beer, save yourself the hassle!

ant,

The wheels don't require re-balancing everytime you mount them. If you can change a wheel on the roadside, you can swap your seasonal wheels; no difference.

To do it right, buy yourself a decent torque wrench (<$100) and torque the lugs to the appropriate torque (found in your owners manual). When first mounted, recheck the lug torque after the first 50 miles or so.

That's it. Good luck.

James

Actually when you work for them you get less importance cause they arent going to get surveyed by a fellow worker.

30 bucks for a 150 Ft/lbs torque wrench is too cool. I need a new one after my craftsman one broke and Sears would not give me a new one. Don't belive that lifetime replacemnt warranty stuff they almost always find some way to squeak out of it.

I know what I am buying for my grad present.

If you have to sets of tires& wheels for the summer & winter, thats great. You can put them on the car your self as long as you have a lug wrench and a jack. CHECK the torque specks of the wheels. I allways check the torque on my wheels after I rotate them....
