Happy with your 215-45/17 non RFs?

To anyone who went with 215-45/17 when they switched to non RFs... Any regrets? Would you do it again?

Most of what I've read has been positive about the slightly taller size.

Except this:

My main objectives are:
1) Improve comfort
2) Sacrifice handling only at outer limits
3) Reduce tire noise

No regrets at all.
I will be putting the same tire and size on my new wheels.

I’ve been using 215/45-17’s for four years now and see no reason to stop now.

I too have 215/45/17 and have no complaints. Will probably do the same for my next set of tires.

I am running that size also. Night and day from ride quality as far as comfort. I would think that it would help prevent mushrooming as well.

I just did the switch. Things i notice is less road noise #1.
Bumps and cracks in the road are less intrusive. The major trade off
is steering responds, not nearly as good as the run flats.
My mini tends to drift more and feels less responsive. Cornering is also
not as crisp and tight. I have the yok's ES100's and reaaly miss the
RF handling. But it does offer a smoother ride... my 2cents

I'm also happy with mine... (have the Eagle F1). Don't look quite as cool as super low profile tires, but the comfort makes up for it.

very happy with mine... it fills out the fender gap with a slight lowering allows a very clean look... though if you lower, offset becomes limited even if its just a small increase in tire size from oem

i had 2 sets of 215/45-17 now for the summer, and 1 for winter, and im going to get a third set soon

Happy with my Avon's so far. On the car since new so I've not had anything to compare them against. No complaints. Nice riding. Wider profile from the back.

Different sneakers... different car! Love my Goodyears F1 GS-D3 215/45R17.
Seeing that Max doesn't do snow the run rocks are back on until spring.

215-40/17 and very happy.
Might be a little more harsh than 45s, but the look and handeling are great.

I used 215/45 after using 205/45 non runflats on my previous MCS. For your objectives they fit almost 100%. The car does not feel as nimble or respond as quickly as a lower profile/skinnier tire. But the grip is great.

Done em both..

for day to day stuff, the 215/45 is a nice combo. For ultimate handling, the 215/40 is a bit better, but ride starts to suffer, and you better watch your pressures like a hawk! It's easy to pinch the sidewall.....

Matt,

In terms of comfort, is the 215/40 identical or close to the stock RF's?

I found them softer...

it's the sidewall, the the runflats are stiff. But I can't overstress how important pressure is on this size. When you hit a big bump, even though the ride is softer, the whack can be harder as there isn't as much sidewall to compress before you're hitting the rim.
