Hey guys!
I want to see your 18" wheels. I am going to get these for my Mini.
I think many Mini have 17". Why not 18" rims.
Let me have your suggestions or opinions too.

Here is mine. ASA AR1's with Kumho ECTSA ASX 215/35ZR18 tires. I love the look and they ride so much better.

 

Why not 18"?

Selection is larger with 17" rims although 18" selection is pretty big, depends on the wheels and the brand.

18" rims are relatively heavy compared to 16" and 17"rims. Lightweight 18" rims are going to be relatively expensive and harder to find.

For the MINI 18" rims usually means looking for 35 or 40 series tires which can be rough riding and faster wearing compared to 55 series tires that can be used on the 16" rims or even 45 series tires on the 17" rims. Some 18" tires are heavy compared to similar 17" tires.

Whether 18" rims look better than 17" rims is a matter of personal preference.

On the track and for performance driving most of us use 15" rims and really small (outer tire diameter) wide lightweight tires. I have 6 sets of wheels for my MCS and none are 18".

18" JCW R105 rims in Matte Black... Currently running Kumho SPTs in 215/35R18.

 

I suggest you get yourself a big cup of coffee and browse THE wheel thread...

 

2 Piece Boze alloys 18x8 23mm offset, 215/40/18 Falken Fk452. IMO, go with 40 or slightly stretched 45s tires. You will feel all the road imperfections with 35 series.

We also have the R105s, but in the other color. We are currently running the OEM Dunlops 205/40/18 I believe. Once those are done, we are going to switch to 225/30/18. That should be fun.

The light bar is from MINISport in the UK. The installation is fairly straight forward as the kit comes with detailed instructions. My only comment is that the lights are only 55W which may not help you situation. If you like PM me your email address and I can forward you the instructions

The R105s are only18x7 inch wheels... I would have thought that 225 would be too wide for them - i.e., wouldn't you get a softer sidewall (less go-kart handling) due to the looser fit? The runflats are 205 series... 215 (like I'm running) is already wider than stock.

On a related note, the ride definitely improves with non-runflats, and they're stickier to boot. I only got 5000 miles out of my front pair of Dunlop runflats, and ended up replacing all four tires about 500 miles later when I got fed up with a slow leak in one of the tires... (I also was worried about running near-bald tires in the winter, even in L.A.).
