Runflat vs. Concrete Block - who won?

So, thanks to the outstanding handling of my MCSC - and my lightning-quick reflexes (yeah, right ), I managed to avoid creaming the front end of my cabrio on the concrete block that emerged from under the truck in front of me. That's the good news.

The bad news is that I still clipped it with my left front tire.

The winner?

Hisssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss....

That's the sound of $335.26 leaving my bank account.

Son of a Nutcracker. Only 3900 miles on that tire. Doesn't even have the "new" worn off of it yet.

But I'm now a believer in runflats. Limped home on it. Will limp to the tire store on Monday - who unbelievably can have a matching replacement tire on Monday from their warehouse an hour from here.

Now I'm actually thinking about buying and holding a spare tire at home... but gawd these things are expensive.

blimey-sorry to hear about your accident... i guess a little torquing on
the valve core wont fix that....

but good to hear you salvaged your car from more damage by your
super fast reflexes.

i bought a used set of x-lites from someone local for very cheap and
keeping them as spares. you might want to do the same... or find
a used 02-04 civic wheels or something. they are 4x100 and 56.1mm
same offsets.

yoiks - might be a good idea to have your alignment done and having the suspension bits checked. Glad you and the car are alright tho

What kind of tires do you have? Tire Rack sells my oem 195-16 Dunlop runflats for $148 each. Ouch, just saw the oem 17s for $275. Big difference.

Yep. Today has made me rethink (1) my conviction to ditch the runflats once they're worn out and (2) my contingency plan.

I'm already shopping for gently used runflats. And at least one spare wheel with tire mounted. Since Blimey is out of commission until Monday now... don't want to risk damaging the rim...

I've preached pretty hard on this very forum that there are few instances where a plug kit, a compressor, slime and a cell phone aren't sufficient. Well, even though I COULD have gotten someone to come get me today, I was bringing lunch home for my wife who is on pain meds recovering from minor surgery - so the 15-30 minute delay it would have been to get someone else to pick me up would have been a REAL problem today... worth $150 bucks or so (delta between non runflat vs. my runflat)? Probably, under the circumstances...

Course, then again, I've had my one incident for the next 10 years, so I should be good to go... I'm sure there are many 20-somethings reading this that actually believe the odds work that way... but not me...

Luckily I think I'm good alignment wise and mechanically - I mean, I BARELY hit the thing - literally just clipped the corner of it with the sidewall. No marks on the rim, the car didn't even bounce... bastard block just punched a hole in my sidewall...

and that brown stain on the seat, think that will come out? Call Heather!
Glad you didn't suffer worse damage. Can you even imagine what would have happened if you were not able to avoid running over it.

Happened so fast, didn't even have time to leave a skid mark...

Yep. Bites the Big One. I'm going to start buying up used ones every chance I get...

Do you have your car back yet?
