Old school kidney bean or torque thruster style rims

Bear with me, folks. I just sold my daily-driver '69 Camaro and ordered an '06 MCS. Going through some growing pains here.

Has anyone seen anything even close to kidney bean or torque thruster style rims for the Mini? Been quietly trolling around here, looking for something, anything. Found nada.

Surely I'm not the first have that lust in their eye and some cash in their pocket.

Might help if you post a few examples of what kidney bean or torque thruster style rims look like, some here may know but many like myself don't.

The puppies...

will have no idea what you're talking about....

I haven't seen any kidney bean rims. Also, the Torque Thrust look isn't "in" for Minis... Closest you will get is Minilite or Panasports....

Most of the wheels for the Mini are more modern machined look than torque thrusts.... But you might want to see if you can get some blanks (wheels without the holes drilled) so you can get them drilled for 4x100mm. But remember, FWD cars tend to have much more offest.

And Even though I'm a Mustang guy, I'll help an old muscle car owner out!

wow - not sure if i classify as a pup or not, but I also grew up with muscle cars. (71 chevelle, if your asking!

As Dr O points out, the minilite/panasport look is the small sports car evivelant of the Torque Thrust D:

That is definatly one of the timeless rims. Not sure if anyone makes a 4x100 set with the correct FWD offset.

Do a search for koning rewinds or ASA JH6. these are modern MINI fitments for minilite style rims (and not as $$$ as panasports.....)

good luck!

Yeah, photos would have been a good idea. Sorry 'bout that.

Fishbulb has the general idea -- that's a classic torque-style rim, indeed. As common as fuzzy dice when it comes to old American steel, but I've not seen anything close that's set for the Mini.

But, now I at least have a couple more ideas. Will do some more research this weekend.

After another month of looking, it definitely looks like I am SOL on this one. Too bad.

That's what I thought...

FWIW, I'm using the newer painted 5 spoke (first came out on the Bullitt mustang) on my 65 Restomod. They are cheap and plentiful. But for the Mini, you're stuck with a more modern look......

Someone is making spoked wheels though!

Did you try emailing/contacting some of the old school companies like Cragar? They don't make like their classic Series 61's in 4/100'?

What about Boyd Coddington? Will they make a set of custom billet's for ya? Maybe you can get a group by going and get a discount.

I haven't been able to find anything in my "rim travels"...I'm searching for a nice summer rim for next season so I've been cruising all the sources I know of also...

Closest I could find...

ASA JH6

Crager 610

Crager 398
This one may not have the offset.

American Racing Silverstone T

Now AR makes custom wheels based on some of the more classic styles... But it looks like they only do it for 5 spoke designs....

I am really not a fan of the classic Mini old-school stuff -- you know, the Crager 398's and the like. Dunno -- just does not sit well with me.

I'd looked at the ASA JH6's -- in theory, they're kind of close, but they really aren't what I'm looking for. Close, but not really right.

And if I could afford custom rims from the likes of Boyd Coddington, I:

a) wouldn't be driving a Mini Cooper S

b) would be paying for opinions, not asking / begging for help!

Torque Thrusts are cool rims, on classic american muscle cars. They just don't make sense on a tiny British FWD car.

Flip it around, and see if you can put some S-lites onto a '68 Camaro. Isn't that just a silly thought? Of course it is...

Torque thrusts on a MINI? That's just unnatural!

Oh come on, they're not so bad.....I remember another thread like this a while back when someone was looking for wire wheels.....and another guy was hunting for white walls..... To each his own. I wouldn't put torque style wheels on my MINI but for me the wire wheels and the white walls ideas are much worse. There are plenty of five spoke wheels out there that look great on a MINI -- not really so different than the torque thrusters.....

Sorry just trying to help...besides I didn't think they were that unearthly expensive, they're along the same lines as BBS wheels I thought pricewise, not true? You'll certainly find plenty of Mini's with BBS wheels.

Found something....

close, i know it is a 4 x 100 pattern, spent a lot of time with miatas. Problem is, it is a 14" rim and not s single marking on it to say who made it. The miata was a early car 1989 - 1991, so the rims might be that old as well. But, it is a step in the right direction!

Much closer. I found a couple of places local that I think will have something close -- my business trip ends in 10 days or so, so I'll stop in then and see. But yes, those are much closer.

American Racing Wheels have several though I don't remember seeing any with right bolt pattern and offset. I like their Silverstones.

Speak for yourself - I think Torq Thrusts on a mini would be cool. I mean look as the optional wheels they offer for 2011 - 17" & 18" and pretty busy. A wigger's dream come true.

What I wouldn't give for a set of Ansen Sprints that I could slap on my MINI!!

It kills me that in 2011, you can't just order the style you want with the specs for you car. Grrrr....

You won't find the term Torque Thrust with anything that will fit a Mini. What you will find is rims classified as Banana Spoke such as some previously posted examples already. I didn't see the Rota RB mentioned...
