BFG G Force Sport vs Toyo Proxes 4

I am looking for a non-runflat 205/45/17 and have pretty much narrowed down my choice to these 2 tires based on reviews I have read, price, and wear rating. I am curious if anyone might have experience with both of these tires and could offer a comparison or any insight that might be useful. These will be for a MCS used as a daily driver so ride comfort and low noise is important but not at the expense of handling (if that's possible). Any input would be appreciated.

You may already know this, but just in case....

Remember that wear ratings are subjective from each manufacturer. While the numbers may mean something if comparing tires from the same manufacturer, they mean absolutely zip when comparing across makes.

i can only speak on behalf of the proxes 4's. they are a great tire. I ran them on a previous car and the treadwear on them was great, and I drove the car aggressively. You should be able to get them for a decent price, probably less than $100, and you will not be disappointed in your purchase.

I realize this is Summer vs all season. I think I can probably get by with a Summer tire year round in GA and the 340 treadwear rating seems impressive for a Summer UHP tire. How that will hold-up and handle compared to the Toyo 300 rated tire is what I am curious about. The reviews of both tires seem pretty good.

Have the BFG's. Little to no road noise. Very comfortable ride. 7K miles and no sign of wear. They have GREAT traction on the dry, but are between lousy and dangerous when wet, especially in a light rain. They plane really bad in a downpour. IMHO they're strictly a good weather tire.

I, too, have the BFG G-force sport in 205/50R16. I haven't noticed them being lousy / dangerous in the rain...

blue agave, how much tread depth is there left on yours? If you have a tread depth gauge to measure with, that would be great.

I went from the runflats to a set of Toyo Proxes 4's in 215/45/17. I got 26,500 miles out of them on my MCS, compared to the 24,500 miles out of the stock Goodyear RSA runflats. It's my daily driver from April through November. I have a 15% pulley and rear sway bar and ran 2 autoX's with the Toyo's - I drive reasonable but don't baby the car. Randy Webb commented that he liked the tires during our 'test drive' after the pulley install in 2005. They wore well, grip well in dry AND rain, were quiet and rode better than the runflats (no surprise there). I would buy the Toyo's again. Plus the Toyo's came with a 500 mile guarantee, so you really can't lose. If you don't like them, you can return them.

I can't comment on the other tires.

Toyo

I run Toyo T1's on the Mini S and S1's on my 911. They run relatively quiet, hold like hell in the corners and wear very well. They are fine in rain within reason and I have even run them in the snow cautiously. I would buy them again. I think I paid $125 for 215/45/17's. Daz

snid - spent all my money on the JCW, so none left over for a gauge , but checked my records - the BFG's have 5,350 miles - so I assume there is very little tread wear. If it helps, I run them at 34 psi.

I've been very happy with a set of Toyo Proxes4 that came on a set of used 16 inch Rota wheels I bought for AX a while back. Great grip, nice quiet and fairly cushy ride on the street and tread wear seems better than a lot of competitive performance tires. The courses we typically AX on are very hard on tires, and I've been really surprised how well they've held up considering they had 10K miles on them when I got them. I may get in the whole season on top of the initial road mileage!

I don't have any experience with the BFG tires but would give the Toyos a

Thanks for the responses. It sounds like the Toyo's may be the way for me to go. Edge Racing has them for $104/ea. Anyone know of anyone cheaper that does mail order?
