Gonna buy a set of 17" Hammans . Any pros with heavy wheels? All i ever hear are the negative aspects.

Anyone know if the hammans are clearcoated? forged or cast? cant seem to find that info anywhere.

Also does weight have anything to do with road noise???

 

Well, the Hammans are H O T

 

for real: They should withstand potholes better without bending

for surreal: If the earth's gravity ever significantly decreases, they'll help keep the MINI on the ground.

Otherwise I can't see any reason why heavier is better.

 

looks, and they are pretty much bomb proof (alright, maybe not, but over bumps there's the material advantage!)

 

For icy and wet road they will have better traction. also since transitional from different speeds will be less abrupt and less chance of wheel spin. That is a pro to heavy wheels.. Of course you have to be around those condidtions

 

All other things equal, a heavier wheel should be stronger. A lighter forged wheel can be stronger than a heavier cast wheel, but that's apples vs oranges. A heavy forged wheel on the other hand (are the Hammans forged?) should laugh at potholes that might destroy a lesser wheel.

 

I'm looking at getting a set of SSR Competition's or maybe BBS RV-F's - I hate my S-heavies.

 

a heavy wheel may take pot-holes better, but only at the price of punishing your tires by pinching them....
