Peformance tires on a budget

I need to some thoughts or suggestions of tires for a 17 inch wheel. The car currently has toyo proxies. The right front is balled and the left front a chunk of the tire is showing the steel belt.

What's the wear on them? Is there any road noise? These tires will be used as autocross tires during the weekends this summer.

i second on kumhos... im running Kumho Ecsta SPT right now and they have been great, noise is a bit louder than the old Bridgestones i used to have, but dry grip is great, wet grip is decent, and overall good tire

otherwise, tire rack lists Avons and even Goodyeargsd3s are pretty decently priced

Is the Kumho's a good all season performance tire as I am not going to put on winter tires for the winter. I live in central Illinois.

They've got ASX witch is a competent all season with 30K mileage expected. Its also aysemetrical - it may be roated to all 4 points on the car. $83 ea in 215/45/17

Let me know if your interested.

I put on a set of 215/45/17 Cooper Zeon 2XS before the Dragon, I wasn't too crazy about it at first because of no reviews. The tire is AWESOME! I ran the Dragon in the rain with Koolmini and ANTSMINI and it was like the road was dry! The car stuck like glue! I was impressed. It's also a pretty quiet tire with a "AA" traction and "A" temp rating and has a 280 treadwear.

I just picked up a set of Yokohama Parada Spec II for $89 a tire through tirerack. They get a real noisey when they worn out, but have loads of grip, even bald! Oh, and something like a 220 treadware or something.

What about the new ESCTA AST? I've seen them advertised for the last two months, but can't find any reviews. Do you have any info on how they compare with the ASX or the P Zero Nero M+S? I've been using the Pirellis and am very pleased, just always curious about the lastest tires.

I've tried the ASX on my Volvo before. The grip is decent, sidewall is a little soft compared to real summer tires. They actually worked in snow, not terribly great obviously, but not bad for something thats grips this well in the summer.

If you absolutely need an all season tire, this isn't bad at all. Its really quiet as well.

If I were you I would check tirerack.com and edge racing for sales and closeouts. I found 215/40/17 Toyo T1S for $86 per tire and 215/45/17 Goodyear GSD3 for $88 per tire. I was too late on the Toyos, ER only had one left. So I got the Goodyears from Tirerack. Only 800 miles so far but they seem great.
