Very noisy tires...

...I think. I have been noticing as of late my drive keeps getting louder. Sort of a resonance. Definitly from the wheels as it doesn't change with engine speed, just rolling speed. It has gotten to the point that it is annoying. I just changed over to my summer performace tires (Pirelli, runflat) from my Blazzak snows and it didn't change. Might even be louder. While it doesn't sound like a bearing I wonder if it is. Been a long time since I had one go. It is an '02 S with 101K.

Can a defective tire do this? Any ideas?

Every time I've had this problem the culprit has been the tires, so swapping them has solved it. Have you replaced any of the suspension parts in your 101K of driving?

No, I haven't. I'm looking to get an 06, so I really don't want to get more tires...

I recall reading somewhere some time ago that mounting tires that have quite a few miles on them on the opposiete side of the car so they rotate in the opposite direction resulted in a lot of tire noise.

More than likely if you just changed tires and the noise still exists then the cause is most likely not the tires.

IMHO

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. But I may try swapping the rear ones to the other side and see what happens. I am almost sure they are on the same sides they were, but who knows...

I just can't imagine what else would make a low droning noise like this besides tires.
