Cleaning a "Mesh" Wheel (R90, ASA AR1)

How hard is it to keep a set o these clean? I am bouncing back in forth between wheels like this & a more simple wheel in gun metal or something, and the cleaning factor is one issue. I find it hard enough to keep a set of R84's clean, and they don't have little bolt holes or anything.

thanks!

Get yourself a wheel brush to get in all the little cracks and crevices and it's not verry hard. Takes a little more time but not much.

Personally, I find them VERY easy to keep clean. My wife HATES it when they look dirty so she cleans them

The trickiest thing is not missing a spot. It also helps if you don't have a brake pad that puts out clingy dust/particles. Mine clean fairly easily but do require attention to detail. Getting in between the spokes I often just use soapy water and my finger with or without a rag and a softish brush with long bristles (OXO in my case) seems to work pretty will on getting around the little bolts simulating the multi-piece design.

Cleaning these wheels isn't my favorite thing in the world to do but I think mesh wheels look fundamentally right on the Mini, so I'm willing to put up with it (so far)

I have the boars-hair wheel brush that Kenchan mentioned, and it is a great tool - works very well on even throughly brake-dusted rims, even w/o a special wheel cleaner spray, particularly if you keep your wheels waxed. Just clean the rims first with your usual mix of suds/water, and either dump the dirty water before you clean the rest of the car, or use a separate bucket for the wheel work. Mesh is a bit more time than other styles, but not too much.

I have to agree with you. I was looking at a lot of other styles, but everything beings me back the the ASA AR1 (BBS Style rim). I like some other ones now, but will i still love them in 4-5 years?

thanks!

I used the MINI Wheel Cleaner on my BBS MINI R90s for the first time with a small curved black bristle brush. Seemed to work well on the ATE black brake dust. Very clean now. Next problem is the black dust spots on the paint that need removing...

I've got a great write-up on the BBS made factory MINI R90s here >>
