Kasei K-1 TS

Have always wanted to get new wheels for my MINI and a little mishap occured with the wife and a curb and I now have that opprotunity.

I can't seem to find anything on Kasei wheels. I am afraid that there might be some reason for this that I don't know. I love the K-1 TS wheels, but don't want to buy a bad product.

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Displ...t+Grey+Painted

Does anyone have them? What do you think of them? Are they just to light weight and I will bend them on the first pothole? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I love those wheels. As soon as my RunFlats are done those (+ some better rubber) is my next upgrade. I have asked a similar question sometimes back and the responses I got were all positive. I big enough pothole can damage just about any rim, so you will just have to watch where you are going.

I bought 5 wheels, mounted with LOW profile tires ....215-40-17 from Tire Rack

I bent 1 on a HUGE pothole at 60 miles per hour -- HUGE BOOM --

I have 6,000 miles plus on the wheels, track use and all

I swapped out the bent one and haven't had a problem since ...

BTW, I had the bent one fixed at RIMPRO (Highly recommend them, if needed)... No problem

those are the most reasonable rims as far as the quality, price and weight is concerned, i'd say go for it.

I have the same setup as RED FURY, and I've been very satisfied. No bends, no issues--and a 40-series tire, too.

I highly recommend the Koseis.

Kosei rims

These rims are sold by tirerack (see alex) and include the K1 TS and K1 Racing which are both good options in 15x7 and 17x7 or 17x7.5 for the MINI.

These are reasonably priced, moderately strong with a choice of finishes.

Be careful if you have plenty of potholes to dodge, these rims will bend if you hit a deep pothole going fast. Getting an extra rim as a spare seems a wise choice just in case.

Tirerack sells a variety of tires to go with the rims that should work very well for street use (non runflats are good).

I have Kosei K1 TS 15x7 in silver that I use for autocross and track- works good. Be kind on the finish (it can be scratched).

For autocross it depends on your class.

For Street Modified (not for stock class- Yikes- Brain damaged post!) you can use 15x7" rims and-
205/50-15 with many tires to choose from (Kumho V710 is good)-
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...t=All&x=53&y=5

or
225/45-15 (avon Tech R-A).
see
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...t=All&x=20&y=4

For stock class using 15x5.5 rims you can mount 205/50-15 tires- requires a determined mechanic to mount it.

Kosei (either model) can't be used in stock classes, as they are wider than the same diameter stock wheels. They're fine for SM, or STS/STX/Street Prepared though. The K1-R also comes in a 16x7.5 that worked well with 215/45-16 Azenis for ST classes.

That is the setup that I used for the past 3 seasons on my MCS, plus the previous two in a different car. This fall I switched to the 15x7 K1-R and Avon 225/45 Tech Rs.

Love em

Have the K1 in 17 x 7.5 with 215 / 45 -17s. About 14K miles on em and no problems. You see them on a lot of track cars, Mazda and such... Got them from Tirerack (thanks Alex) with the tires and already mounted.

Great wheels, worth it

They are so light compared to my S-lites I had. I weighed my S-lites in at 24.5 lbs each!
The Koseis come in at 14.5 lbs!
10 pounds of ugly fat per wheel!
Can't get enough of that!

Another happy K1-TS owner. And here in NW Indiana we have some maginificent potholes, and so far the wheels are straight and true. I swapped them out for the winter but come spring they will be back.

I was talking to a friend of mine who runs a wheel distribution (wholesale) business. He was telling me that for wheels to be legal in Europe, they have to be soft enough to bend, as opposed to, cracking, disintigrating or exploding when the wheel goes through a real violent bump or pothole.

It makes sense because you don't want the tyre to rapidly deflate or your'e likely to find your car inverting itself on the way to a bit of nasty smashing action...

So next time you hit a huge pothole and curse your wheel for getting bent, imagine what could have happened if the wheel compound was less soft...
