Brake Dust Collector

Has anyone seen the brake dust collector on the SEMA web sit? It looks like it clamps to the brake caliper and some how keeps the brake dust from collecting on the wheels. How great would that be !

Most of these sit over the calipers and prevent heat dissipation. They're a very bad idea.

This device seem to be for brake dust only. It made no mention of heat displacement.

When I bought the MINI, my dealership held an open-house for new owners. They explicitly covered brake-dust shields, and suggested that we stay well clear. The question posed was:

What good are clean wheels going to do for you when you panic-brake on the highway and nothing happens?

If these items restrict air movement in any way, you're looking at boiling your brake-fluid, which will make the brakes useless.

A safer option is to clean your wheels with NXT wax, and hose them off regularly.

If you go to the SEMA web site and look up new products you will see that it is not a sheild that covers any part of the rotor but rather attract's the brake dust from above. I will try to make an attachment.

Or you could just give a page link. I looked all over the SEMA site and just got frustrated.

Their website doesn't even mention the new product that attaches to the caliper - just the fenderwell vent.

Adrian - I'll bring the brochure I got at SEMA on Saturday.

It can be found under "New Products" (styling & appearance) It's made by a company called Street Vac international and called the "suck it up brake dust terminator. I don't know how it works or if it works but maybe someone here on NAM might know.

Thank goodness it isn't this:

http://kleenwheels.com/

That's the product I was thinking of. Steer clear of it. I think these are the same quality folks who brought you the turbonator.

When I asked my MINI dealer if the large volume of brake dust was normal the service dept. suggest brake dust covers b/c brake dust eats away at the rims. I couldn't find any and just keep cleaning the rims every week, figured I should wait until warranty time is over the switch to ceramics
