spare tire from Cooper fit on Cooper S?

My dealer says the you cannot use the spare tire from the regular Cooper on the Cooper S because it is 15" and it won't fit over the rotor.

Is this true?

I wanted to get away from the runflats... especially now that Tire Rack is sold out the winter runflats and they say the tire companies don't even have them considered for production.

It's gonna snow tomorrow! help!

Yes. The stock MC spare will fit over the brakes. One of the frist things we checked when we picked up the compact spare in 2003. The all-season RF's were sold before the car's first Winter.

We use MC 15" 7-holes for Winter wheels (with snow tires) on the MCS.

The Cooper S and Cooper have the same brakes (rotors, calipers).

I called the dealer back and asked again, and was told that no, it isn't made for the S.

I said I understand it's not "made" for the S, but will it fit... and before you answer please think and choose your words carefully as I know people who use it.

He went on to say the standard BS on how according to MINI's policy yadda yadda, they could not recommend the spare.

I'm still waiting on a call back on the price.

This is the first negative I have had from an otherwise superb dealer. Hopefully it is an anomally.

I didn't put the spare on the front but I did on the rear and it fit perfectly.

I know it works on my 05. Tried it just to make sure. It is a different size (of course) so it should always go on the rear no matter which wheel is flat.

just buy it

Just ask to buy the spare, as it fits, and don't ask for any help/info about the spares intended use. Mine fits, and in 2+ years I haven't needed it. It sits tightly behind the passenger seat in nice "bag lady" bag more as insurance so I wouldn't have to wait for MINI roadside on a cold night... Flats don't happen much anymore, and I had only one in past 20 years of driving.

You can spend a few hundred dollars from most dealers but in this thread I told everybody how to get an original Cooper spare for $110:

And I made a mounting bracket here:

Thanks for your help everyone.

Dealer quoted me $233.10 Canadian with a 3-4 week wait.

I'll go the Tire Rack/Classic Mini route for the spare. Even with shipping it's still $100 CDN cheaper.

Have you tried a wrecking yard for one? I purchased the wheel/tire for $48 u.s. shipped earlier in the year.

Why not just a bottle of "Slime" and an aircompressor. Much easier to store. That is what I do in the winter when I don't have runflats.
