The SSR Comps are one of the aftermarket wheels I'm considering. However I don't like the bucket shaped center caps from Tire Rack (apparently in Japan, center caps are not provided for this wheel, and the caps are exclusive from Tire Rack for the US market). I know that it is not unusual to run SSR Comps without center caps, but I would prefer a cap for a more finished look. My question is what kind of alternatives there are to tidy up the appearance of the hub area.

I found a thread on an NSX forum where someone made their own flat center caps, and I wonder whether a similar treatment can be done on a MINI. Question for SSR Comp owners: with the center cap off the wheel, does the MINI's hub+nut stick out at all, or is it recessed (how much) within the wheel's hub opening? Personally, instead of carbon fiber, I'd want to try a center disk that matches the wheel color, then put a black MINI wheel sticker on it.

 

that's a nice looking center cap. but for us performance guys, not having caps is part of the dressup.

Alex, does that mean that the MINI axle will stick 19 mm into whatever wheel is mounted? Then what is total height of the center hub hole in a SSR Comp?

What I want to determine is, for a SSR Comp, how tall does a center cap need to be to clear the MINI axle, i.e., is a custom flat center cap possible on a MINI?

 

If i don't forget, i'll take a look at my car later on tonight and see.

When I tried the SSR 'easy button' center cap, the MCS hub was
pushing out the cap but not to the point the cap would pop off.
but it was close...lots of tension.

the easy button has a rubber friction ring which holds onto the recess
area on the inner bore of the SSR center hole. What you need to find
out is if this recess area is over or under the MCS's hub. If over, then
you can make a center cap like the pict you posted and just friction mount
it in there using some plastic circles with faux CF sticker.

If it's under, then forget it. too much of a hassle.

front will not work but the rear will work.

both hubs are inside the recess area of the SSR center bore,
but the front hub nut protrudes past the recess area.

The stock MINI logo from all their tires fits nicely on this center cap, and can be glued on with silicone. Looks very factory.
