Looking for black wheels ....

I'm looking for lightweight 17" black wheels with polished lip. I went through all of the options on tirerack.com but didn't like any of them.

ASA AR1s
Liked the looks, but they're too heavy - 20.7lbs.

BBS RGR
Love 'em, but they aren't dark enough for me. Anyone know if you can get these in black? Would prefer if they came black - don't want to have them painted.

SSR Competition
Super light, but again, I don't think they come in black.

Any ideas?

I got Rota Subzeros, black with polished lip, from www.18racing.com. I believe they are in Northern CA. Phone: 925-339-3828. Several of the Rota wheels come in black with the polished lip. Rota calls this "Royal Black." They are also sold by an outfit in San Deigo: www.jaydm.com. I believe both places include shipping in the listed prices.

The Rotas look sweet but they don't have pictures of their black wheels on www.18racing.com. Do you have any pictures of your Subzeros?

It looks like he has some pictures in his gallery.

Nuff - those look AWESOME. I also have a JB MCS (not convertible though). I am curious; what size did you get, and what type of tires did you get?

I am wondering if I got the 18 inch wheels, and had H&R Sport Springs if the tires would rub at all.

Those are sweet! Pretty close to what I'm looking for. How much do they weigh?

From wheel weights and this sight, http://www.superhonda.com/tech/wheel_weights.html, the sub zeros range as follows:

Rota Subzero Cast 15x6.5 12.9
Rota Subzero Cast 16x7 14.5
Rota Subzero Cast 17x7 16.5
Rota Subzero Cast 17x7.5 16.9

I would wonder if the polished lip versions are heavier though - when I was shopping around I found that the same wheel design with the polished lip was often heavier then the all cast wheel version, and these weights do seem to be based on the regular cast verisons. Contact Rota for the weight on specific sizes/widths or see if a reseller will put it on a scale for you (some will even send you a pic of the wheel on the scale :smile.

I weighed one of mine when it came in on a bathroom scale. It averaged 17.4 lbs, but the numbers were all over the place, so the precision of the scale wasn't very good.

Thanks for the info. Couple more questions if you don't mind.

1. How much were they?
2. What kind of tires did you put on?

I think I paid $545 shipped with the hub centering rings sized for the MINI. I put on Nitto 555 tires in 225/40-17. They are wider than recommended for the MINI, but my car isn't lowered, so they don't rub. The tires came from Discount Tire.

Me too (all black) and the convenience of having them is that when I spray wash the car I do the same to the wheels. No more rubbing them with my fingers to remove the brake dust. I hope eventually that the brake dust will obscure the white lettering.

PS: How did the automatic NAM file attachment editor allow such a big and clear image to be uploaded?

I wish I could figure this out, too. Hell, I can't even figure out how to quote someone else in a post. I've got the smilies figured out though

Lower right corner of each post is a pale blue band marked "Quote". Click it to quote the post. You can delete lines from the post too, but I don't think you can add lines to it (such as inserting comments between lines).

THe black wheels look great. I have had a set of rota C8s on my miata since 99 or 2000, and they have held up very well.

going off topic....

whatever you want to still be in quotes, copy that funny code that says QUOTE=morknmini inside the [] brackets. put this: /QUOTE inside two more when you want it to end...

I saw Steve's car last week with the new wheels. They looks fantastic in person on the black MCSC. Steve has a bunch of aftermarket chrome too, and the polished lip makes the entire car come together.

Sorry to keep hijacking this thread...

When I try to quote, I don't get the "originally posted by" part.

Like this, for example.
