Okay, my new Dunlop 15" WinSports on ugly steel wheels are due Thursday. Any suggestions on some caps that won't look too nasty? Will any 15" hubcaps fit? This is my first foray into the terrifying world of hubcaps, so ANY advice would be much appreciated!

Steel wheels sound like a good idea for the winter. Where did you find them.
I hate the thought of playing dodge the pothole with the factory wheels.

As for hubcaps no idea.

Thanks for the thread.

I got mine through the dealer because Tirerack.com was out of my size at the time. I'm just not sure where to go for hubcaps and if all 15" caps are compatible with all 15" wheels, etc...
Hopefully, somebody out there has some good advice.
BTW Jack, your smileys look great. Do they come in Indi Blue???

Not sure about the MINI steelies, but the steelies I got from Tire Rack (albeit for the wife's car) accepted a set of "standard" hub caps from Target.

For as cheap as the hub caps are, buy 'em, try 'em, and take 'em back if they don't work!

$600 for 4 steelies and 4 15" Dunlop WinSports. I probably could have done better at TireRack, but it's so late in the season their stock is pretty low on winter tires. I tried various tire shops in my area, and they were all completely confounded by the MINI (but that's another post).

Thanks for the tip, Mini2Go!

Has anyone found a decent looking hubcap? I just had my snow tires (Blizaks) mounted with steel wheels. The hubcaps are so darn ugly that I prefer the steely alone.....black actually looks good on the MINI given it's change in attire. Tire dealer said it was best to use the hubcaps with the amount of salt and garbage on our roads in winter. Any thoughts?

What other vehicles have the same bolt pattern? Does Miata? Maybe by looking for a hub cap for a vehicle that has wheels interchangable with MINI?

175/65/15 M2 on steel wheels $462 + shipping

you can add wheel covers - for $30 to the set, and I like style 15

If you need winter wheels/tires, check ebay. There are 15" 7-hole base MC wheels going for $200 for a set of 4. Stock tires worked pretty well for me this last winter. If you feel the need, replace tires with blizzaks and have at it.

Lost one...

...and the others look pretty beat. Tire Rack is all out. Anybody got leads on where I can buy more? Everyplace I find wants $80 for 4, I paid $25 at TR so this seems high.

Thanks.

But they would still be over $120 for 4. How come Tire Rack's are so cheap? Am I just spoiled?

I doubt you'll be driving very hard with snow tires in the snow...

Don't bother.

I have the 15" black steelies from the Tire Rack for my winter tires, (Blizzak's), and I purchased "UNIVERSAL FIT" hub caps from ehubcaps.com.

http://www.ehubcap.com/detail.asp?Pr...529&Size=15%22

They fell off many times in the winter slush and snow. I lost one, replaced it, then lost another one.

I have since given up on all hubcaps, even though I realize that my universal-fit ones were probably too cheaply-made. (Remember the old saying, "you get what you pay for").

Besides, since my summer wheels are now black, I like that my black winter steelies match that well...

So, in summary, beware of universal fit hub caps. They may work for a month or two, but then you have that sinking feeling when you see you've been driving through town with one missing, looking like a doofus...:raz:
