Has anybody had any dealings with Wheelmax.com? I have the SSR GT1's right now and I am ready to move on, but Wheelmax has what looks to be the same SSR GT1 design but they call it the Exel DL-46. Is there a huge difference in quality? There is definitely a price difference. Weight difference? I am considering the following wheels and I am looking for input in regards to price, quality of manufacturer, weight, look, and fit for my 05 MCS. A lot of these designs look like knock off's of konig, bbs, and other brands, I am just wondering how they compare.

Does anybody have any of these setups and like them or have any pictures?
Also, Alex does Tire Rack have anything comparable to these wheels in terms of design? Thanks!

 

You have GT1's and 'ready to move on' to those wheels?

You're going the wrong direction. Look for true 2pc/3pc
wheels instead. Why ditch GT1's for some knock-off wheels?

I am moving on because I want a darker wheel. I have a dark silver and I am going for a different look, not necessarily the lightest or biggest name brand of a wheel. Also, if I can make a few bucks selling my SSR's I would love to make some other mods to the car with the extra cash. I will be posting the SSR's in the marketplace sometime in the end of August.

I got a set of the Exels last month for $935 to my door. The quality and finish is perfect - all hardware was included. I did have to have them rebalanced, but they reimbursed my card.

 

I see... perhaps Rota might be a good choice. they have bronze and
gunmetal, etc. they usually go about $450 for a set of 15's $550 for
16's and $650 for 17's delivered. :smile:

Is that rota a ssr comp knockoff or ?

 

They make knockoffs of may different brands... but they are pretty
popular and seem strong enough for weekend track use.

 

Are the Rota's forged or cast? I can't seem to find that information on their site. I'm assuming they are cast, due to the cost.

The SSRs are semi-solid forged, the Exels are cast. I don't know the Exel weight, but I'd expect they're hefty. If you don't have a problem w/ knockoffs they'd probably work ok for you, but its still a knockoff. If it doesn't bother you to own a rolox watch, then knockoff wheels wouldn't bother you.

My Exels were 11 lbs. lighter than the stock s-lites and runflats per corner, if that gives you an idea - it was a significant reduction.

 

rotas are a good choice to go with. i have circuit 8's on my civic prior to my MCS and i can say that the quality was good, especially for the price. the only problem that i had was the color of the gunmetal finish. it is has a brownish hue to it. it's NOT dark grey. so if you wanted these wheels to match your dark silver mini, i would stay away from them. at least the gun metal finish!

 

If you replaced the run-flats, you new tire probably weighs ~20lb vs. the 25lb for the run flat. And a s-lite is 25lb, so the Exels themselves may be 19lb?

 

That would be my estimate.

 

If one doesnt' mind the extra tuner holes the Kosei K1 TS in gun metal is a decent wheel and light at 14lbs in 17x7.

 

What I found was that the paint color and the paint quality itself is not
always consistent, so it's best that you find a local store that carries
Rota's and physically look at the wheels before you buy them. I, luckly,
have One6motorsports.com right by me so I just go there for those if I
ever need those wheels for track or even winter use.
