Cross drilled rotor choices

I always see Zimmermann and Magnum crossdrilled brake rotors advertised. It has occured to me now to look at them since my Exel Race wheels completely expose the rotors and I'd thus like something more stylish. I really have no problems with the performance of my standard rotors on my 2005 MCS, but would like to hear suggestions here with which ones people have had good experiences. I did search too, but found no answers to my questions.
One more though, if I do change rotors do I need to change pads too? I only have 600 miles so far.
Thanks
H

I really like SP Technology's slotted and cross-drilled rotors. They're well made (they're not just 'straight-drilled', but are sinusoidally curved and chamfer drilled in order to avoid stress cracks). The price is great too (see below - email price quote I just got from them).

Check them out here.

02-04 MINI MINI COOPER
(front) Cross Drilled & Slotted $129.98/pair
(rear) Cross Drilled & Slotted $113.54/pair

For ordering, or for more information, you can reach me directly at:
800-733-8380.

I plan on putting a pair on both the front and rear once my OEM rotors are shot... for now I've just ordered steal brake lines, caliper bushing kits for front and rear, along with Ate Super Blue fluid. That should improve things quite a bit in the meantime.

Cheers - - Michael

If you plan on doing a lot of aggressive driving or track events, get slotted rotors and stay away from cross drilled rotors. They will crack! A few weeks ago, I saw an E30 M3 with cracked crossdrilled rotors (zimmermans), only 1 track event old.....

Yeah - thanks - I'm not completed certain on these or getting just the slotted. I do go on track days and autocross events, so I probably should stay away from the crossed drilled. Although a buddy of mine has 'em on his Porsche, and has never had a problems - track days and all.

Moskito,
If you want the cheapest durable solution stick with either-
stock rotors but change to better pads or
Consider Brembo stock sized rotors and upgrade the pads.

But for looks you can consider-
Larger big brake kit- costs more but does improve braking- contact Todd at TCE brakes or go check out Webbmotorsports.com or detroittuned.com
(lots of options).
or slotted or cross drilled rotors-
Cryogenically treated Powerslot rotors are more durable than normal untreated slotted rotors- cost is more but they will last longer

I did used Zimmerman cross drilled rotors for autocross track and street driving and found that the rears did fine but the front had micro cracks after about one year. A reliable mechanic said that it wasn't too bad and I could have left them alone and used them but I switched to Cyro treated Powerslots (from tirerack.com/ or from Webbmotorsports.com).

When changing rotors you should consider upgrading to new pads if you are currently using the stock pads. Less dust and better braking would be a plus. Tirerack.com has quite a few choices (call alex) or go shopping at Webbmotorsports.com , helix13.com, outmotoring.com or detroittuned.com
(see NAM vendor list).

Diamond slotted rotors

--They have diamond slotted rotors at this site for MINIs now:

Has anyone tried out diamond slotted rotors yet? Any noticeable improvement? Any noise or problems? Thanks one and all.

I didn't try the diamond slotted rotors, but I did buy front and rear regular slotted rotors from these guys and they're quite good. Good quality and a good price too. They make 'em to order for you. Highly recommended!!

I don't think your friend drives hard enough ...
I've seen a whole lot of tracked porsches and most of their drilled rotors look like this.
