Kumho MX vs. BFG g-Force KDW-2?

Hi All,

I'm shopping for new wheels and tires and am trying to decide on a 18" tire. Anyone have input on this two tires, Kumho MX vs. BFG g-Force KDW-2? Some of pros/cons from my research:

Kumho 215/35/18
- lighter weight, 19lbs vs. 26 for KDW-2
- less noise
- good tire for the price

KDW-2 215/35/18
- better overall grip, wet and dry
- heavy in this size, 26 lbs!
- complaints of noise

The KDW does come in a 215/40/18 which has a higher load rating and is lighter at 23lbs, and its diameter is close or equal to a 215/45/17.

I thought I was set on the Kumhos but now I can't decide. Can anyone help?

I have kumho mxs and they are loud but they stick very well. No complaints so far although the wear rating is 200 and they aren't kidding.

I like the BFGs myself, had them for like 400+ miles and love the tire. It really brings attention to your wheel and tire combo, and yes they are loud but I really don't care, as with pretty much any perfromance tire they will have some noise issues. As for the weight, unless you are dragging or racing of some sort, your not going to notice anything. i really feel your reading to much into the tech stuff. I wrote a review for tirerack a few weeks back and pretty much said; "I took my MINI over to the tire rack in south bend. My chosen tire was the bfg kdw 2. I thought they looked badass on the screen and wanted them put on my new wheels. These were going to be my summer tire and wheel combo so I wanted something that looked awesome and and had the performance to boot. When I saw them on my car I said, "dang those look awesome!" But then I took them on the twisties a short way from tire rack and was more impressed, these tires not only look good but have the performance to make the OEM tires look and feel like crap!"

The biggest thing I noticed was that when I turned hard the sidewall would flex in my RSAs, there's no such thing with these babies!

I have had both and use them both for track days (6-8 a season) and daily driving. IMO,the KDW is a more comfortable around town, better in the rain, noisier, better wear (by far). Both handle excellent at the track. I will get the KDW's again.

I took a BRAND NEW set to the track this weekend and the fronts are probably 75% cashed. It was over 100 degrees so I didn't feel like rotating the tires. Had I done so, all four would be at 50%.

Still, pretty crappy for brand new street tires and only two track days.

Were they shaved? I was told that running new street tires at the track is not a good idea. So how are they worn? Edges, centers?

BTW, my tires probably have about 12k on the street and they are about 50-75% worn.

No they're were stock. I have Hoosiers on my track car, but it's not running all that great right now so I took the Mini.

I now have the bfg after the paradas spec 2. I don't have any road noise problems at all, but these puppies howl when reaching the limits. It's embarassing around tight corners, but a very helpful warning at 60+ mph hard corning.
