Sumitomo HTR Z as track day tire?

Just about to finish off a set of Fa..... tires that I have been using for track days. Was thinking about another set of Fa........, Ha........, or Kumho ECSTA MX when I saw the Sumitomo HTR Z for $52 each (205 50 15), and a 160 wear rating. I know the wear rating can be misleading. That's almost half the price of the others!

Are they any good as track day tires? Anybody have any experience?

Thanks in advance.

For track and autocross on a budget you might look at-
Hankook Ventus Rs2 Z212

205/50R15

19.5Lbs.

200 Treadwear

MAX PERFORMANCE

W Rated $78 each at edgeracing.com

"Hankook has created a tire to compete head-to-head with other popular street-class autocross tires."

At tirerack.com you might also talk to alex about the Kumho Ecsta MX (Max performance summer tire) in that size it is $86 each and makes for a good street tire that can be run on the track as well. 220 wear rated, good tirerack ratings. 19 pounds each. Good recent test results-

Depends if this will be a track only tire or something to use for both street and track use.

I'm with Minihune

I just put the Z212's on my S2000, they are fantastic as a street tire / autox.

I'll use them more for track days myself.

You might want to get them shaved before running them, I found them to be a bit squirmy with full tread, but balanced it out some by playing with the pressures.

I've driven them pretty hard in the rain even and because of the channeling the grip remains.

I have no idea how they say these are tw of 200...they grip far too well to be that level of wear.
