I am getting my MCS this week (hopefully it arrives) and want to replace the 17 S-Lites with the 17 R90s.

First, are the tire sizes the same?

What is the best price on the R90s? My dealer wants $2500.00 !!! Anyone selling a set?

Also, any other recommendations on other rims would be great.

Thank you in advance.

Jeff,

The $2500 price tag should include the tires, which you don't need. If you like the R90's, ask the dealer how much for just the wheels, and ask the dealer how much to remount your 17" tires onto the R90 wheels.

A similar looking wheel to the R90 is the Konig Imagine. Here is a link:
Konig Imagine Wheels on Red MCS

Someone on this site or MINI2.COM has a car similar (maybe the same car) to the above, and I think it looks good.

BTW, the Imagine in 17" runs ~20 lbs and costs from $200-250 each. Your runflats should mount fine to the wheel.

See ya,
JS

Jeff,

You might want to check to see if the runflats will fit the Konig. I'm no expert, so I may have mispoken.

Said in three messages what I should have said in one!

I had the R90's as my first set of wheels. Nice looking. I paid $385 each for them from Westchester MINI. You should check out Classic Auto Campus (Click on the pic below) as they sell the R90's at 20% above cost. That's still a lot of money, but it's still less than you'll find them anywhere else.

here are a couple pics of my MINI when it had the R90's on it.

Thanks for the link and welcome, Dave.

Those R90's do look good. I had seen your roadtrip thread and admired the pics. I bet it was a hoot traveling with all that gear in a Mini (or not?

I'll check out the link you provided, since I am also looking at going with R90's or an aftermarket wheel. I understand BBS makes the R90 and its a very good wheel. Do you know anything about the Konigs I mentioned? Does Konig have a good reputation? I'm kind of new to all this wheel/tire business.

Thanks,
JS

Hey man I think the BBS RXII is the same as the R90. The appear to be exactly the same. Just the center caps are different. One states, BBS the other MINI.
Check it out at http://www.pure-motorsports.com under BBS. Take the Runflats from your present 17" & put it on the new 17" rims!
Just make sure that BBS makes it with the same lug configuration for your MCS.
They are $465.00 a piece perhaps the dealer price is better?
I am upgrading to BBS 17" but which exactly is top secret.

I have the R90s on my MCS. For what it's worth, here's my experience. First, if you get the wheels from the dealer, at $385/ea., they include the Dunlop tires, and they force you to take the OEM Pirellis with SLite wheels. This configuration costs an additional $1,000. I sold the OEM Pirellis and SLite wheels on eBay to net back the extra $1,000.

The dealer tells me that the Pirellis won't fit on the R90s. I'm not sure I believe the dealer about anything. They have a history of lying. Apparently the Dunlops fit on the SLites, since I saw them on an S this weekend and they seemed to work just fine as she passed me at 115mph. Anyway, the dealer here in St. Louis charges $100 per wheel to mount and balance the run flats. I have yet to find another shop who is even willing to mess with run flats, which require extra effort and special equipment to mount and balance.

As far as the tires go, they're great. In fact, they were great in the snow! They do look cool, for style points. The wheels look cool, but I find that I have to be very careful not to scrape them on curbs when parallel parking. And, the horrible BMW brake pads generate a huge amount of dust, so it's hard to keep them clean.

If you can buy the whole R90 Dunlop package from the dealer, it's about $2,300. The R90s are $385, the Dunlops are about $200 each, plus $100 each to mount and balance. Alternatively, you could buy the Dunlops from Tirerack.com and try to find someone who can mount them for less than $100. My experience with Tirerack.com has been excellent. They have great info and selection and price and the tires arrived within 2 days.

Hope that helps.

Before you unload $2500.00 you should realize that the r90's as sweet as they may be do protrude past the rubber & they will get dinged up quickly. Just a thought!

I had my R90's installed by my dealer (Lauderdale MINI) at the time of delivery. I paid $1600 including installation, and I got my 17" S-Lites back in perfect (unused) condition. They installed my original Dunlop tires on the R90's. They look great, although I could have found lighter rims.

Tell your dealer to quit holding you upside down trying to shake money from your pockets.

The MCS I purchased had the R90s with the pirelli euphoria runflats. So the pirellis fit on the rims.

My dealer also gave me the 16 inch R84 wheels and dunlop tires that came on the car from the factory.

The cost I was charged was a little over 2K as I recall.

Thanks for the support regarding abusive car dealers. It's really embarrassing, as if they don't make enough from selling a hot car at $500 over MSRP.

FYI: I have a set of R90's for sale in the MARKETPLACE. I got my mini from available stock and the R90's were part of the package.
