how long do the all season run flat tires last
I just went in for a 12500 Mile oil change, and my front tires were shot. I didn't rotate them...there is a good thread on that subject in the tires forum...rotate vs. not...I did it out of not thinking...the last cars I had had different front and back tires, so I COULDN'T rotate them... so I didn't think of doing it for the MINI.
I think I saw a post where someone said their tires were shot at 9000.

I've rotated my about every 5,000 miles. With about 18,500 miles on the clock, I'm noticing the fronts are beginning to show a little more wear than the rears since the last rotation at 14,000 miles. Of course, at 15,000 miles I had the JCW 210 kit installed which probably explains this recent development! They are by no means shot, however, and I fully expect to get another 5,000 miles from them after one more tire rotation.
Thus, the rate of tire wear will depend on:
(1) whether you rotate them or not (and how frequently);
(2) your driving style.
I would wildly guess that if you are a "performance" driver and don't rotate the tires, you will probably wear your front tires down in 10,000 - 15,000 miles. Your rears will still be serviceable, however. If you are a "moderate" driver and rotate your tires about every 5,000 miles, you might expect around 20,000 miles on a set. And if you are a conservative driver and rotate your tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, you might expect 25,000 miles or more.
Many of us can't wait to wear out the runflats so we can switch-over to performance non-runflats!
Hope this helps...

My "03" has 22,500 on it and the the run flats look new. I rotate them every 5-7K. I find them to be great. Had a nail in them on a road trip, the flat tire light came on, drove them another 100 miles, had it fixed and not a problem since. That was back when the car had 10k on it.
Keep the run flats.

On my first MCS, I made the mistake of not rotating the 16" Dunlop SP5000 runflats for 15K miles. The fronts still had some thread but were pretty worn out and the rears had plenty of thread (Maybe around 75%-80% left) but they became very, very noisy. I rotated anyway (To buy some time from the stock tires) but the noise coming from the fronts was driving me nuts. It subsided somewhat after 2K miles, however.
The rear tires sit at an angle (Toe? Camber?) different from the fronts, thus creating a "scalloping" wear pattern. This is why you must rotate these tires every 3K-5K miles in order to even out the wear pattern of all 4 tires, or at least keep the scalloping wear of the rears to a minimum.
If you don't rotate these tires, they will last 20K miles max. If you do rotate, it is possible to squeeze out perhaps 30K or more miles on the stock rubber.
I personally like the 16" stock all season MCS runflats and now that I have just taken delivery of my new '05 MCS with the same exact stock tires as I had in my '04 MCS, I will be on top of the rotation schedule.
If you follow the manufacturer "recommendation" of never ever rotating your tires, expect to shell out $500+ for new tires every 15-20 months....no thanks.

Non agressive driving is relative. I think we all take corners more agressively in this car, and consequently we're going to see faster tire wear.
I noticed wear on my fronts at about 9K and rotated them. At 15K those tires, now on the back, still had more wear than the fronts.
My guess would be that if you drive moderately (for a MINI) and *if you rotate* you should get about 20-25K or maybe a tad more.

I've never had any luck "rotating" tires. My experience has always been after rotation they never felt the same, slight vibrations etc. I have a set of Dunlap 17" 9000s and have 21,000. The fronts will go another 5000. I will go to a set of Yokahama Parada spec-2-Zs or BFG g force T/A KDW-2s for the next set.
My plan now is to replace 2 sets of front tires for every set of rear tires that I just leave on the back. Think I can get 20k miles from 6 tires with plenty of spirited driving around the twisty roads in my area.
This is one of those very subjective questions.
I’ve gone through 50K tires in 15K and I’ve driven 20K tires for 50K. There is no true answer for the question. It’s more than the style you drive, it’s also the weather you drive in, the roads you drive on and every other thing out there that may and does affect the wear of the tires.
I have a friend here in Florida who only recently replaced his original run-flats with non run-flats and he had 42K on them. I know others who have worn theirs out at 12K. When I changed to non run-flats at 19K the tread was still great and could have gone for another 10-15K. I just wanted a more aggressive tire for daily driving so I dumped the run-flats. 15K of driving in my MCS would take another year and I wasn’t going to wait that long.

Geeze- max I've seen in this thread is 20K?? Just replaced my '03 with an '05, I had over 35K on my '03's and plenty of life left. If this is what I have to expect, then hopefully someone on this thread can suggest (so that a dummy can understand) what reccomendation they'd have to replace them at the time. Since my dealer charges $90 for an oil change, I can assume they would charge a bundle just to rotate tires, AFTER I made an appointment and waited...

i guess more spirited driving is on order.
13500 miles under spirited driving, Goodyear Runflats were done, minimal tread left on the front two tires. I switched to Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S and LOVE THEM...totally different driving experience (read : better...infinitely better). I've run them in snow, sleet, rain, and they've performed above and beyond my expectations.
Good luck and drive safely!

Good call on the Pirelli PZero Nero M+S tires~ They perform well and feel great on the ride (MC friend just purchased his). My tires however still have the run flats on them and I am speedily looking for a place that possibly carries in stock the tire mentioned above 205/40 17" tire. I only have 19000 miles on my MCS (2nd hand after 8600) and the front tires are 2/3 SMOOTH and the rear's are in a close 2nd! I agree that the run flat need to go~ But I won't cry when they're gone
Hey Jax you have my twin...
Here's the part where I start driving normal now. LOL. i'm sure glad I ran across this. I wasn't sure if the rotation was part of the mini maintainance program or not. How much do they usually charge to rotate them? Is it the same as any other car or do you have to bring it to a mini dealer to do it?
