I had true wire wheels, with knock-off hubs, on a '67 Sunbeam. I had to occasionally check that they were tight by hitting the knock-off with a mallet. They were factory, painted steel, and were a little hard to keep clean. I think they were a good look on that car. I never weighed them, but I recall thinking they felt light compared to regular steel wheels I had on other cars.
IMO, the wire wheels on british green won't be too bad, but I think you have to consider the brake dust on this car is horrible, meaning it will not be easy for your to clean those spokes/wires hiding more inside, so I think the maintainence is what to concern. My 2c.
After playing with these two pictures, I say paint your ride plum add some curb feelers, maybe some neon..... actually it looks pretty good. Downside ,expensive, hard to clean, heavy, handling suffers(flex), rustprone, people that steal-steal those! Upside--You like them
Let me know if you want to see them with sidepipes

wow you guys are mean. They are not that bad. They would look great on a mini. It's your car, do what you want. Concerned about cleaning them? why? It seems most of us spend too much time with our cars anyway, what's another 15 20 minutes?
Can you get wire wheels for an FWD car?
I had wire wheels on 3 of my cars in the olden days (Jaguar XK150, Jaguar E, Aston Martin DB5 when they were just used cars) and I also washed my father's cars. The wire wheels took an extra 30 to 60 minutes to clean per car per week. Also, while my cars had chromed wire wheels my father's didn't. So his required even more time. Those chemical cleaners left streaks so I had to clean each wheel using my fingers and shredded cloth. Racer friends back then told me that chroming the wires weakened them so that is why the serious cars (such as theirs and my father's) had matte finish wheels. They were trying to make me feel good about having to spend the extra time. It didn't work.
Back to wire wheels for a MINI. Their section might have to be so biased to the outside that they could look more like wire hubcaps than wheels. You should inspect a set for a MINI first. I don't know if Borrani is still making wheels, but theirs were far superior to Dunlop or Dayton. My fingers could tell the difference.

Wire Wheels
Is this an actual photo of a Mini with Dayton Wire Wheels or is it a graphic creation?
