EBC Brake Rotors.....
EBC Brake Rotors.....
Ok i did a search and didnt see anything on this? There was a company that had these on their web site and i cant remeber if it was outmotoring.com or what? They are EBC brake rotors that are slotted and dimpled instead of bein cross drilled. Ive looked all over for them and cant find them again. Can anybody tell me where they might be or drop a link in a post to lead me to them.
Thanks
Matt

What does that mean? Was it discontinued? If so, what is it's replacement?

Still haven't seen anyone beat these guys on Power Slot rotors for the MINI:
LTD Motorsports
I was very happy with my order. They dropped me an email to make sure I found what I wanted and quick shipment.

Why are you interested in brake rotors?
Improved performance?
Looks?
Have you done other brake mods already?- change the pads, brake fluid, or brake lines yet?
Your purpose for considering the rotors would determine which rotors to get.
If for improved performance consider both the brake pad and the rotor. The pad is easy to upgrade depending on your needs and for street use the stock rotor or Brembo OEM stock replacement will "work" just fine. To firm up pedal feel you can upgrade to stainless steel brake lines from the stock rubber ones. To reduce the tendency of the brake fluid to overheat you can upgrade to better brake fluid that boils at higher temperatures than the stock fluid.
For track use, the stock rotors or Brembo rotors are going to be reasonably durable and cost less. The regular powerslots can be overheated at the track. The Cryogenically treated powerslots are more durable and might handle the heat better but they do cost more.
EBC rotors had a bit of trouble being noisey.
For looks consider big brake kits or slotted and or cross drilled or dimpled rotors but these are not for performance applications due to reduced durability over time. They will work OK for street use. The more slots and holes added to the rotors the more surface area is lost and the more wear there can be on the pads (more dust too).
Im looking for performance. I havent done any brake mods yet. I plan on doin just about everything for the brakes, pads, lines, fluid etc. Just trying to get and idea of what is good so i know what to order.
I've read on vendor websites and on this thread that the more dimples/holes or slots on the disks the less durable they are. That seems to make sense since there is less rotor. However, why do all the BB Kits and even the Brembo GT BBK cost so much if they are not as reliable? They sure look like they can handle the heat for a track.
Like DrkSlvrMini I am thinking of changing out my rotors for looks but I would also want equal or better stopping power compared to the stock set up.

Changing rotors for looks is a personal matter but the cost of those looks at an "affordable" price would be less durability especially if used for performance driving such as on the track.
BBK do offer looks with their rotors but they also use better materials and improved brake design to allow for less heat build up than if you used "stock" sized rotors and stock brake calipers. BBK are trying to improve looks AND improve performance- that justifies the higher prices.
You cannot compare BBK with a stock brake setup. BBKs are meant to stop better and handle heat better- they are overkill for street use even if they just look good. Simply changing your rotors and pads doesn't make a BBK. They are different levels of upgrades.

It's not a matter of not as reliable really. If you increase the rotor mass and diameter you can work the parts less to achieve the same goal. Over working a drilled, smaller or light rotor in too hard an application is going to lead to problmes and premature wear.
But I'd have to honestly say that the main reason behind it is marketing. They look good, they sell, and they make the buyer feel good about them because they look 'high tech'. Hey, you asked....
Changing out your front rotors for anything but a larger one included in a BBK is only going to equal your stopping 'power'. It will never better it. The diameter is the same not matter what. You can enhance pad bite and wear by way of holes, dimples, slots, whatever but the rotor torque remains the same.
If you want more 'power' you have to either; 1. Change to a larger rotor, 2. put more piston area behind it, or 3. Buy a pad with a higher Cf to begin with. Ruling out 1&2 that leaves you with 3.
Now go call Alex for some improved pads, some braided hoses, evaluate your rotors, lightly turn them of need be or replace them with ANY of them and you'll have all the 'power' you'll ever get from stock parts. Beware however that more aggressive pads wear rotors faster and generate more heat. That's the down side....
