+38 17x7 what tire size ?

I know that the 205/45/17 will work fine. My questions really lies in terms of a 215/45/17. Will it rub at stock height? Will it rub lowered on a Pro-Kit.. Does it mean just some rubbing in the back, that a dremel can easily fix?

My logic has always been the larger the side wall the more protection for the beautiful rims that we buy and a more comfortable ride we would get

Using stock suspension and 215/45-17 tires will not rub and be fine.

Upgrading to Eibach Pro-kit or other springs that lower the MINI 1" or more front and rear will require rims that are within the offset range of about +42mm to +50mm. Rims with offsets of +38mm will likely rub in the rear but a dremmel can cut the inner wheel liner to make more room. Another option with the +38mm offset wheel is to consider 215/40-17 tires but that would make the ride quality a bit harsher and sometimes the selection of tires is a bit different and cost a bit higher.

When you use 225/45-17 tires then there is much more need to dremmel trim the rear inner wheel well.
