I know how you feel.

After about a month of trying in vain to get my wheel and tire replaced on my lexus. I finally gave up. The funny thing was that I had a police report. There were 3 cars lined up on the local freeway here and one of them was a cop. All from the same pothole! Cool guy, went into all this talk about there being a fund somewhere to replace tires and wheel damage done by potholes. I never found the unicorn here in Ohio. Maybe you'll have better luck in Jersey.

Sorry my story isn't any better...

One more thing

My brother just looked at the rim and said "oh yeah, wow, that can be fixed"
Can it really be fixed? It has to be perfect in my mind. I bought them for racing purposes.

Law in Ohio

The law in Ohio is if someone reported the pothole (usually in writing) the state has 3 days to fix or cover the hole. If someone bends the rim on a "reported" pothole the state is liable.
I have one now at the end of my street and have reported it as of today. I don't plan on hitting it but if someone else does they are covered if it's not fixed.
So, I figure it is up to everyone to take a minute out of their busy day to help someone else out with reporting the "killer" potholes

Yes, rims can be fixed, depending on how bad. SSR Comps are not cheap

Check with your local Discount Tire/American Tire. My guy in San Diego has someone locally that fixes them so the guy working in NJ probably does also. Good luck.

I work for the Louisiana Highway Department and the only way you will get money from your State is to take them to court. And of course you'd need all the facts to be well documented. Without being able to prove that the State ignored the fact that the hole was there and didn't fix it, well you aren't going to get far.

I'll save you the explanation of why we can't fix all the potholes but suffice it to say we don't do it to be d*cks.

Sorry to hear about your rims. Try hitting up the District Office for the highway department in your area. If they have a good Administrator he may hook you up. Long shot but what do you have to lose.

Good luck.

Matt

What is the size of the pot hole and at what speed did you hit it? What is the size/aspect ratio of your tire? In your judgment will most other alloy wheels with common street aspect ratio tires suffer damage?

Some folks are running extremely low aspect (rubber band like) ratio tires which the rim can sustain damage even from an otherwise benign pot hole.

I am curous if the SSR is indeed more fragile than cast wheel with ~40% more weight.

i'm pretty sure in nj it's 1-800-pothole. if somebody else reported it before you and it wasn't fixed within a certain amount of time, the state is liable.

The SSR Comp's are notorious for bending easily - they're best kept on the track and away from potholes/curbs.

Best of luck

Well I am pot hole concious and usually don't follow people too close so I can see the pot hole in advance. (In the Winter) Anyways I didnt get a great look at the pothole. I was going 70mph, no time to swerve, and hit it dead on. I felt the impact in my jaw. Last year the same thing happened on RT 80. (Jaw break included) Only I had the S-Lites with Runflats and it busted the tire, but the brick-like S-Lite was fine. Cost me 200 bucks for the stupid tire that i didnt want anyways. I'll see if I can get it fixed but I am leary. I would rather spend the $350 or more for peace of mind. It can't be lopsided in the least bit. I'll just chuck it! My own stupid fault for thinking I can make it through the winter with my race wheel/tire combo. Figuring I can borrow my bro's truck when i knew it would snow. You live, you learn i guess.

Well i just reported it. I didn't have all the details. I'll check again tomorrow and get the mile marker for sure. Doesn't seem like it was previously reported though.

I waited for almost 15 months for the reply to my Indiana tort claim to be responded to. Here you have 12 months to replort said insidence. The state responded that in the 12 months I was the 1st complaint.

If they had not known of the pothole prior to me, they could not be negligent. The funny part is that 1 week after impact I got pics of them repairing the whole stretch of highway. Both Moda M1's driver side, TOAST!
I would not hold your breath.

Alex
