TPMS relearn voodoo?

I just had new tyres put on new wheels with new VDO-Continental Redi-sensors SE10008. Suppose to work out of the box!
They don't...
This on a 2023 Cooper SE.
I'm being told that I need to do is use the OEM relearn procedure. As far as I know, that is going into vehicle status and resetting the TPMS there.
I've done that 6 times so far. Once it not only got past 0, but all the way up to 49% before throwing an error.
What is the voodoo needed to get these damn things to work?
