F55/F56 Tpms malfunction
Tpms malfunction
So I bought a new set of wheels with tpms from tire rack and after trying to reset the tpms I now get a malfunction. Am I stuck with going back to dealer to have them clear the malfunction code? I tried to reset again but it keeps saying malfunction
You might have used a wrong TPMS. The F56 uses the newest version of TPMS.
It is not the Beru/Huf brand anymore.
In general, TPMS battery age is about 5 years. So, by 5 years, if 1 fail, it is better off replaced them all. Because soon, the others will be running out of battery also.
Bought a set used from 2013 R56
The Fs use the same sensors with the new BMW 3/4 series or something. Part #: 36106856209 [realoem.com]
Turned out the guy i bought JB+ tuning box from sells this stuff too:

Have not done on MINI TPMS yet, but I have been successful just changing out the (almost dead) battery only on oem TPMS of other vechicles so far - usually 3.3V flat round one. The battery cost me only about $5 or less. It takes a bit of time to remove the battery from the circuit board and resoldering it, but it's doable. The most important step is to make the TPMS housing airtight using RTV to prevent corrosion from the moist air inside the tire. Another good reason to fill tires with Nitrogen.
Just an update here. Tire rack has sent me replacement TPMS which is just the oem BMW TPMS and now the everything is in good working order. So I guess at this point, there is no aftermarket TPMS that works for the F56
TireRack is cool and great vendor IMHO, so this comment isn't directed at them, but instead of always looking at after market....why not support the dealer you bought the car from? They sale the TMPS's....... Just don't understand all the post on these forums about craping on the dealers, except when you go to get the "Car of a Life Time" from them! Yes, I've seen that posted here also. With all the longing for the F56 and the PEEPS here who just had to have one, maybe thank the dealer a bit from time to time. Just like your wife/husband.....cultivating the relationship sure goes a long way in getting stuff YOU want faster and more often, and who knows, maybe cheaper.

Currently there are no aftermarket TPMS available, but there is the OEM replacement made by VDO who made the OEM parts for BMW. It is the same parts, just different part number.
The BMW one is made by VDO and stamped BMW's part number.

Same thing as the BERU/Huf, they are not the aftermarket TPMS, but they are the guys who made it and had contract with BMW to stamped it with BMW logo and part number.
I hope that clears the term between aftermarket and OEM parts.
Auto manufacturers don't/can't make everythng they use.
Heck, even some MINI engines weren't made by MINI or BMW.
Guys
He said after market
I was just using same terms
Not meaning third party or crap parts
Yes, someone has to make them
And yes, they will be same part
My post was about SUPPORTING the dealerships we buy our cars from
Lost in the post was wheat her the part was legally named OEM or stamped with manufacturer name
But I digress, once again it's take what you want from posts and ignore the subject
Thanks Bubba :-(

You are Canadian.....
But on a slightly serious note.
Would you or any one in Canada as far as that goes, be able to say drop down into the states and actually purchase a MINI or any other automobile?
Just curious as to the issues within.
I'm still learning the ins and outs of many things I missed out on in high school.
Thanks.

There's a reciprocal agreement between MINI Canada and MiniUSA that makes that impractical.
I suppose if you got your service done in the US?
On the Transport Canada website it mentions that part of the conformity that needs to be done on the MINI has to be done at a MINI dealer.

They tend to open loopholes when the Canadian dollar is weak and close loopholes when it's near par.
There was a bit of an uproar when the snowmobile dealers were told to shut the Canadians out.
Where has that Free Trade Agreement gone? Or what did it ever mean?
