F56 JCW Need Advice Going Back to 17" Wheels

Hello all, I just tracked my 2016 F56 JCW for the first time today. WHAT A BLAST!

My tires were already pretty well worn, but after today, it's time for a new set. I've been running 18" wheels since I bought the car new. A quick search on Tire Rack shows that there are *far more* choices and far better choices available for 17" so I think it's time to make the change.

Anyone want to recommend new wheels and tires for my car? It's a daily driver, but I'm probably going to be tracking it at least four times a year, so I'm looking for something that works well there. I may even keep my 18" wheel set, put some new all-season tires on it, and just swap them out for track days.

Thoughts? Thanks!

NM makes a 17" wheel that fits the JCW without needing any hub ring or spacer. This is what I have on my JCW.

Used (and unused) sets of OEM JCW 17's go for pretty cheap in the classifieds.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those look great. I've seen that those are a very popular choice here with a lot of people running the RSe05 17x7.5 with 215/45-17 tires. I've also seen @cmt52663 running the 17x8 wheels with 225/45-17 tires. I'm trying to determine which direction might be better to go, with the intent that I'll be tracking this car a half dozen times a year or so.

The RSe05's are absolutely fantastic! I had them on my 2019 and I tracked it as much as I could. Lightweight, strong, and clear the big brakes. And they look damn good. Really, can't go wrong . I just wish they made them in 18x8.5 for the 2021 GP3

What size tires are you running on them? And are yours the 17x7.5 or the 17.8?

If you read the fine print, you'll see that the RSe05 17x8 at +45 are Volkswagen wheels. I had them machined to the correct center bore on the West Coast before they were shipped. They are bloody marvelous, and support the 225 A052 very nicely.

I've learned the hard way that pinching a 225 makes the tire kinda cranky.

Cheers,

Charlie

Thanks Charlie, the folks at Neuspeed said I'd be able to run 225 width tires on the 17x7.5s (possibly with a little shaving of the inner fender well plastic), so it sounds like those will make for an easier order. I appreciate the input. It sounds like you've pioneered a lot of tuning options for the F56 JCW, and I think I'm going to follow in your footsteps on several of them (LSD, RSB, possibly suspension as well). TYVM.

Watch the offset I suggest, +44 is safe for that I think but nothing less.

My A052 225s are fine in front (note I run -2.1 camber) although I've 3 mm from inner edge to shock body but they rubbed a little bit on the left rear outer edge for the first day, after which they had "self clearanced".

Eddie07 runs 17x7.5, but still could not fit the A052 in 225. His offset on his RSe05 wheels is +40, and that is not quite enough.

Cheers,

Charlie

Something remarkable happened. I enquired with Neuspeed to see if they could do some custom machining on a set of 17x8.0s for me, and they said that while they aren't doing that anymore (or at least not right now), they did have one leftover set of RSe16 17x8.0 +45, brand new, that were machined for MINI. They were even in the color I was looking for, and discounted!

Now to source some tires...

I'm jealous, I wanted that wheel. Good luck with them. I got tires from Tirerack.com
