Added wheel spacers, what should I do about my hub covers?
See photos below. I bought 25 mm hub-centric spacers from a forum member, and they fit, but due to the length of the studs and lug nuts, my hub covers won't fit back on. These are stock R84 X-Lite wheels on an R52 S.
Is there any reason I can't just cut the studs to a reasonable length and either cut these long lug nuts or buy plain lug nuts with the right thread? I guess I could drill matching holes in the hub covers and hope it doesn't look too fugly?
Also, how's that stance look? I think it's what I was going for. The car isn't lowered, so I don't think it should hit the flare.
Before After Can't get the cover on Spacer

Reason: add details
I'd buy new bolts - the last thing you'd want is to have one of those after being cut let loose at any time much less while going down the road. Gosh help ya if this happened and your insurance company got to looking into it and found out.
When I put spacers on mine I had to buy bolts for them from Way Motor Works - they might have something specifically for your application.

No reason not to cut them to the proper length.
Put a nut (or better, two tightened together)
so the end of the nut is at the desired length
and cut off the bolt flush with end of the stud
with a Dremel cutting wheel (or failing that,
a fine hacksaw blade).
When you remove the nuts, it will straighten
out any irregularity of the cut threads and
you can use a file if there are still some sharp
or wonky edges at the end. Repeat for the
15 other studs.

New or cut-down studs won't affect the length of those long tubular black nuts, so at the very least you'll need new nuts. Be sure you get the correct taper to match the wheel. I hope the original bolts that hold the spacer to the hub have the correct taper to match the spacer.
If you take the black nuts off, are the ends of the studs below the hub caps? If so, just new nuts might be all you need - if not, then you need shorter studs along with shorter nuts.
I think I'd check with the manufacturer of the spacer first if you choose to replace the studs, as the splines may be different on replacements.
They will know what's best, for your safety.
Solve all of your problems quickly.
Ditch the strange spacers. What do they gain you, except adding scrubbing to the tires when you turn, and some unwanted unsprung weight.
Two bad things to good handling..!
